Been quite the rough week around these parts! My work schedule had been insane from last week through Tuesday, I had 11 flights in 6 business days- New York & back twice, Indianapolis, Corpus Christi, and Dallas. I was scheduled to be in the office on Wednesday & then back out again on Thursday and Friday….
But I somehow ended up with an ENORMOUS staph infection in my left outer thigh. I don’t know what originally started it- spider bite or sweaty 4 hour run last Saturday. Or if swimming in the 24 Hour Gym pool on Sunday with hubby was where I picked up a nasty strain of the bug. My leg was certainly bothering me on Monday, and it was quite painful by Tuesday. I could barely squat down and it was very sore if I accidentally hit it while carrying my bag. I thought I’d drop by the local walk-in clinic on Wednesday as it was obviously getting worse every day.
However, by the time I had a chance to getaway from work, I was able to make an appointment with my regular doctor. She took one look at my nasty leg & ordered an enormous shot for my butt & whipped out a high-dose of powerful antibiotics. I was instructed to come back on Thursday or Friday to have it drained, but I was still under the impression I could travel for work on Thursday & Friday. Back at the office, I quickly realized I’d need to re-schedule my plans & at least stick close to home and off my feet for the rest of the week.
Thursday, I called into the nurse line to tell them the area of redness was still very large & painful. She called back & instructed me to come in that afternoon, and my leg was getting visibly worse by the hour. Let’s just say I’m so glad that I hadn’t attempted to travel & that I wasn’t too old for my mom to take me to the doctor. Stop reading here if you are squeamish….my poor leg was looking like Mount Vesuvius and the doctor wasted no time in painfully punching on it to drain it, then stuck me repeatedly with a needle for a local anesthetic, then actually used mini-scissors to cut open the skin, and dig out some nasty infected skin. ICK and OWW!!
Let’s just say I started getting really nervous that this wasn’t going to be an easy fix. I have a huge hole in my leg, even 24 hours of being on antibiotics and my leg was still massively swollen and turning purple, and my marathon in New York is 2 weeks away. Luckily, when I woke up on Friday, the swelling and redness had greatly receded leaving me with hardly any pain in my leg. I still have a huge hole that needs to heal, and the antibiotics are doing a number on my stomach at the moment. I’m just so glad it wasn’t worse & things seem to be healing. I’m taking just as much Vitamin C and immunity supplements to get through the next week of medicines and keep me well for the big race.
And….the poor puppies have been under the weather too! That’s mostly their medicine (Zoe’s to be more specific). She’s having some lingering effects from her urethra cancer and/or surgery that’s got her on some extra medicines. Mia, who I can’t recall ever really being sick, has an eye AND an ear infection that both need drops.
Needless to say, it’s been a very rough week around here as we’re all a bit under the weather. I’ll spare you any pictures of my leg, but it was (and still is) pretty bad. I’m just glad that the worst is hopefully behind us and I’m off for another busy week of work travel.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Moms that will hold your head while a doctor digs in your leg are the best!

Yikes!!!! Hope you’re (all!) feeling better soon. Especially with the NY marathon coming up so soon it’s a tough time to be feeling under the weather. Best of luck! Least you can all snuggle on the sofa together!

Oh, how awful!! I hope you all have a better week ahead. Good luck and enjoy the NYC Marathon (it took me 7 hours to walk it but I enjoyed every minute).
Hope you’re all healed up by the marathon. The mom in me wants to say “listen to whatever your doctor says”. So glad you didn’t travel and took care of yourself.

Yikes!!! Good thing you didn’t travel and I hope it doesn’t interfere with your marathon at all. That said, if you end up not liking your time, you can always blame the leg.
Lol, very true! Or now, I’ll be blaming all the antibiotics on giving me a very upset tummy….Will be taking vitamins and supplements like mad once I finish meds to stay healthy for race. Thanks for stopping by
