My husband is a cooking machine lately! Two weeks ago, he woke up at 5AM on Sunday to throw another brisket on the smoker & then started on his first batch of cookies while I went to pick up Gram. Made from scratch & jumbo-sized, we only needed one each, but they were a great appetizer as we worked on potato salad.

Now, potato salad is pretty much a family staple at our house- at just about any given family function. Gram made it for years & now mom usually makes it. Getting directions and ingredients from Gram was comical because apparently we bought about twice as many potatoes as we needed.

Gram likes to “pre-help” so she chopped up all the onions and celery before we started boiling the potatoes. Hubby was getting all carried away with the mashing & we had some whipped potato salad instead of the chunky.

Surprisingly, the pups weren’t hanging out underfoot in the kitchen. Zoe was on her chair, trying to avoid eye contact with the camera. Mia was in her position atop the coach for best wildlife viewing in the backyard.

It was a nasty rainy day in Houston (and had been for the past 2 weeks). Some time that morning, we’d tripped a breaker the smoker was plugged into, so it wasn’t super well done by lunch time. We enjoyed a few bites along with our delicious potato salad while the rest of the huge brisket cooked all afternoon.

Just a few more pup shots- they love snuggling with Gram. They both like to get close & lean in while getting love pets.

Finally, later that evening our monster brisket was finally ready. We had so much meat, we were eating it for days!
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Got in my long run (14 miles) in the brutal heat, but I’m sleeping in tomorrow!
