Horseback Riding in Bariloche

Our 2nd full day in Bariloche, H wanted to go horseback riding.  Several of the tours were already sold out, but we found a group who picked us up at our hotel & drove about 30 minutes to a lovely lodge on a lake in the shadow of a mountain.

The whole group met up for a quick breakfast while waiting for everybody to arrive & taking in the beautiful flowers and scenery.

We headed over to the stables and got all geared up and on our horses for the 2 hour ride.

To be honest, this was one of my least favorite activities we did on our trip.  The good portion of the first half of our ride was through dense forest that reminded me of home, nothing really beautiful to look at.  We’d occasionally come to a clearing with a great view where we could see the stunning  mountains all around us.

The second half was more out in the open & I enjoyed getting some sun and taking in the fresh air (it was getting pretty dusty on the trail).

Near the end, we crossed a river where most of the horses stopped to get a drink and then we headed down towards the lake.

Riding along the water was my favorite part- crystal clear blue waters, great views, and a nice cool breeze.

Most of the horses stopped again to cool off & grab another drink.  My absolute favorite part of the whole ride was this amazing little dog that followed us around on our 2 hour journey.

It’s not really very easy to shoot photographs 1-handed while holding onto the reins with the other, but I got a few good shots.

Back at the lodge, I had more fun playing with the dog who was a stick chasing nut!

We had a good lunch, visited with the other riders, and then hung out along the water’s edge for a while before being returned to our hotel.  I wish I’d had a swimsuit soak up the sun and get out of the jeans, but we just laid in the grass and caught a little cat nap.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Mia survived 3 years!  Her birthday was yesterday & she got a special dinner treat.
