Savanha’s Bridal Shower

Several Saturday’s ago, I attended my first bridal shower of March (for the 2nd wedding in April).  It was held at this charming old home up in Conroe.

We had tea & a light lunch before launching into some fun games.  The “How Well Do You Know the Bride” cracked us all up because Savanha herself didn’t know some of the answers to question about favorite shows or random facts.

I was on Team-Awesome for the purse game.  It’s a little scary what some of these ladies haul around in those bags of theirs- I’m a tiny purse gal :)

Savanha is marrying one of H’s best friends from high school & I’m so glad to have another gal in our circle of friends & such a sweet, wonderful one at that!

Then it was time for the gifts!  So much fun stuff & it reminded me how many great things I received & need to use again.

So many awesome ladies & great friends- we were all talking about how much fun their wedding is going to be next month.

This is officially the gang- you can find us hanging out togethers several times a month, usually with our guys in tow ;)

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Rocked 11 miles this morning & I’m going full-steam ahead the rest of the day catching up.

Zoe Update & Loud Dogs

Zoe went in this morning for her 4th and final radiation, followed by a repeat of the surgery on her urethra to zap away more of the tumor.  Overall, she’s doing well & the medicine she is on makes her quite feisty.  She & Mia have been playing more lately, she’s been chasing balls/toys, and generally super frisky when I get home.  We’ve had a few episodes like this above, where they run around the house barking at each other & playing chase.  They typically cease as soon as I go to record it & run to stand next to me.  Zoe is spending the night at Gulf Coast tonight & I’m missing her this afternoon, but hopefully all the treatments will have been successful & she’ll be done with all the major appointments.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Needed a re-group and re-focus day today & I was lucky enough to get it!

Crawfish Boil 2012

Since my husband’s chicken pot pie was so popular, I thought I’d share our crawfish boil next.    We had a big crawfish boil for our birthday 2 years ago, but other people took charge of all the boiling & cooking.

The girls were hysterically curious about the crawfish- their noises & movement piqued their interest.

We always do the “1 survivor” game, but Mia & Zoe had other plans, so none of them got to run free.  Hubby bought about twice as much stuff & ingredients as were needed, so we’re fully stocked for next season too.

Friends showed up to do a little supervising & Mia alternated between checking out the mud bugs & being a lap dog to Pam.

We munched on enormous 3-bite shrimp & jalapeno poppers while we were doing our cooking.

Lemons & butter in.
Zoe runs off with potato.
Veggies go into cook.
Add lots of good seasoning.
Toss in some more onions & garlic for delicious.

Toss in some sausage & mushrooms, then we were ready for the crawfish to finally boil.

This is one of my favorite photos of the day with Ms. Mia a bit fearful & peaking out behind H’s legs as he pours the steaming hot crawfish into the cooler.

It was a really, really tasty batch!  H was so proud of his first boil & the crawfish came out tasting fabulous- I probably ate 10 pounds myself!

Then it was time to relax & peel, peel, peel, and peel more!  I’m a little neurotic & prefer to shell a big pile, then stop to eat them all at one time.  I ended up peeling so many that I had enough for 2 huge lunches that week.  It’s such a blast to sit around, hang out with friend, chow down, sip drinks & catch up with everybody.  And Zoe is just as much a lapdog as Mia.

One of my new favorite pictures of us, even if it’s in our garage!  We had so much fun cooking, laughing with friends & being together.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Almost caught up on all my photos- still ages behind in blogging!

Lauren’s Bridal Shower

I started out the morning of St. Patti’s Day at Lauren’s bridal shower at Brennans- a famous Houston restaurant that I’d never had the opportunity to check out until this lovely little party.

Lauren’s twin sister & younger sister flew into town & it was great to meet her family- who we will be seeing again at the wedding in just a few short weeks.

Lauren is a total crack up & has some fantastic expressions- like these as she was opening up all of her gifts, which were generally themed around entertaining, er- drinking!

We had a blast, a few emotional moments, several mimosas, lots of photos, and 1 uber-adorable baby that got tons of loving.

Lauren has an awesome family & some great friends- we are going to get rowdy at her wedding in Austin in April.

I’m generally not bothered being a technical only child (my brother & sister are 15+ years younger), but I adored her sisters & mom- they seemed to have so many great stories & memories they shared.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Made it safely to Missouri & there are no tornadoes here today.

Chicken Pot Pie

Several weeks ago my husband decided that he wanted to use Sunday’s to experiment and work on his cooking skills.  On this particular afternoon, we’d watched waaay too much basketball that included tons of  KFC commercials for chicken pot pie and tempted H into making his own for dinner.  He cheated a little bit by using a pre-cooked chicken, frozen veggies & a pre-made pie crust.

He still chopped up onions, measured out things, made a mess & cooked the filling on the stove before putting it all together in the oven.

It turned out SO good & I was ecstatic to have left-overs for lunch two days in a row.  He had a blast cooking it & I was so proud of his delicious creation.  I’m really excited that my husband is falling in love with cooking & baking before my eyes- I have something new & exciting to look forward to every Sunday now.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  Zoe is doing well with radiation so far & she’s got her 3rd (of 4) treatments today.
