Zoni Beach

We checked our free map from the rental car & company to find a place for lunch and select our 2nd beach for the day.  Our guidebook had 2 full pages dedicated to Culebra, and it suggested some beaches.  Zoni Beach was across the island, so we thought it would provide a nice drive.

So we found a nice little restaurant on the water & this tiny baby goat tied up to a post.  For some reason, my husband wanted to pet it and have his picture taken- right until it started licking him!

We settled on the Dinghy Dock (thanks to tripadvisor’s new app that lets me find things quickly with great reviews).  This was our stunning view of the harbor and beautiful rolling hills as we dined.

The place is all open air & we were lucky enough to snag a table right at the water’s edge where we could watch the tarpon swim by below us as we ate lunch.

I stole husband’s drink (Cuba Libre) since the waitress was still making mine.  It’s his favorite thing & just about the only mixed drink he ever orders.  I always like to harass him when he’s on his blackberry, so I snap photos of him looking annoyed at me for taking photos of him!

After lunch, we set on a (thankfully) short & very scenic drive.  The road was narrow, windy & hilly- but provided some great views as we headed towards Zoni Beach.

Arriving there, we found a lot full of Jeeps- as it’s about the only car to rent on the island.  They were packed in there & we got the last parking spot by backing up all the way into the trees.

Although this beach had no amenities like food/drinks or restrooms, it was just as gorgeous.  Being so remote and wild, completely untouched made it very special.

There were very few people there & I love all the islands that sat off the coast- they are fun to look at and daydream about.

I didn’t take too many pictures at Zoni, but we laid on the sand and went in the water for a short swim.

The water color here was spectacular too, but the waves weren’t as large.  We took another short siesta on the beach & then a walk before we had to head back to the airport for our 3PM flight back to the mainland Puerto Rico.

I thought the Google Earth was really neat for Culebra so you can see where both Flamenco & Zoni beach are located.  If we ever went back to Puerto Rico, we’d make a beeline straight to Culebra and explore the island more.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: I’m excited February is here & I will officially be on vacation for more than 50% of it!
