Sunday afternoon before the marathon, we wandered north into downtown & stumbled upon Fremont Street. It’s basically a row of casinos on a pedestrian walkway, covered with this huge canopy that is a full light display at night.

Hubby has been there at night & said the overhead lights were incredible. Me, I just loved all the old casino lights & vintage neon.

When I think of Las Vegas in its glamorous heyday, filled with this era of casino- not the excessive monstrosities that line the strip these days.

I loved all the cool names of the casinos, and really found these casinos much more charming and full of character.

I needed to grab lunch before it got too late and close to the marathon start time, so we slipped into the famous Golden Nugget for some Italian food.

We didn’t really go into any of the casinos, but a few were open air & smoke was pouring out! I do appreciate the fantastic ventilation systems in the new hotels, but I think it’s great how close & easy to explore the casinos on Fremont Street are.

Yes folks- you read that right! If you are over 350 lbs, you can eat free at the Heart Attack Grill. They give you a hospital gown to put on while you are dining just in case they have to roll you out. Seriously so gross!

The entertainment area continues on beyond the covered pedestrian walkway & I really wish we could have seen this place all lit up a night.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Finally starting to get into the Christmas spirit- about time!
