Garth Brooks at the Wynn

Although I’d signed up to run the Vegas marathon months ago, I was very on the fence about it.  Vegas really isn’t my kind of town- too much money, too excessive, too superficial.  I did really want to see some of the amazing national parks outside Vegas & we’d been talking about seeing Garth Brooks since he started playing again in Vegas.   Once they announced that he’d be performing the same weekend as the marathon, I booked our hotel & bought concert tickets.  We got all dressed up & had a delicious dinner before the 10:30 show at the Encore theater.

Now- there was a no photography rule, but I just couldn’t help myself and sneak a few blurry photos in when the crowds stood up to yell, hoop & holler.  Going to this concert, I was obviously already a Garth fan & loved his music, but his show was AMAZING!!  No band, no fancy lights, no dancing.  Just him & his guitar, belting out tunes in his magnificent voice for over 2 hours.

Not only is he a talented songwriting & singer, the guy can tell stories & entertain a crowd.  He walked us through his life from childhood telling & singing snippets of all the music he grew up listening to over the years- occasionally throwing in one of his own songs & showing where he got his influences.   This man has got some lungs on him & his voice was just astounding- we were totally blown away and loved it!

We were shocked when his wife, Trisha Yearwood, joined him out on stage- they sang a few duets, joked with each other, she sang one of her favorite songs . Watching them together was just adorable & their making music together was magical.

Garth brought up the lights, took questions from the audience, played a few requests & even autographed his guitar and gave it to a very overly-excited young girl.  Although I loved the U2 concert, I have to probably say Garth was my favorite concert ever.  The intimacy of the venue, the pure vocal & musical talent that he has, his gift for telling jokes & sharing stories, and talking a stroll down musical history was one of the  most fabulous shows I’ve ever seen.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Company Christmas lunch today.
