SS: Fairytale

Sunday Scribblings #297:  Fairytale -I know that this might seem a bit whimsical, but every good writer needs to know one or two fairytales.

Fairytale- It’s funny how some people love a good fairytale, a Hollywood-ending to a story, something too good to be true.  Other people are ever the cynic & abhor the fakeness of such farfetched tales.  Depending on the situation & what day you catch me on, I can be either a believer or a skeptic about fairytales.  I can’t help but wonder why most of these too good to be true stories revolve around love and matters of the heart.

Looking at others from outside, from afar, across the way- it’s easy to believe that somebody else is living a fairytale.  To be honest, I don’t know anybody in real life living a fairy tale.  Sure there are some pretty amazing people living extraordinary lives, but real life is real messy and real complicated.  Perhaps we need the fantasy of the fairytale occasionally to give us some world to escape to, where dreams come true, good always prevails and love conquers all.  Just a little token that we can believe and hope for while living the real life.

It is possible to have parts of your life be like a fairytale, to marry the man of your dreams, to have the most incredible children, to be surrounded by fantastic friends, to explore the farthest ends of the world.  But life is more than the glossed-over big picture of perfect dreams- it’s the real details, the struggles and hardships that build character and make life’s sweet moments atop mountains all the better looking at the valleys traversed to get there.

It’s easy to play make believe, to put on airs for a few  moments while the outside world gets a glimpse.  The older I get & the more I begin to really pay attention to those around me- not the cover models or celebrity superstars, I realize that life may be full of fairytale moments, but must go through our share of pain and suffering, heartbreak and turmoil to savor those times in our life where fairytales do come true.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Made it to Philly for 2 days of vacation & hanging out with my BFF!!!

I love this and your perspective on the whole fairy tale thing. I think it is so easy to assume that someone else has everything or that their life is perfect but everyone has their heartaches and challenges whether we can see them or not. As my good friend says, “the grass may be greener but it is still just grass”.
