Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to Sip & Stroll at Bayou Bend Collection & Gardens, part of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Visiting the Azalea Trail in the spring has been on my list forever & I’ve never been here, so I jumped on the opportunity to explore a new place, learn about the history of my beloved city and of course- drink!

Situated right in the heart of the Memorial area & surrounded by multi-million dollar homes and high-rises, I love this huge old homestead sitting on the bayou, surrounded by acres of gardens and beautiful landscaping. The served light snacks with the wine in the main building where many of the historical items and meeting rooms are located.

We walked down the hill and to a bridge across Buffalo Bayou that leads into the plantation located in swanky River Oaks.

I know bayous aren’t as beautiful as the rivers that many people are lucky enough to have in other parts of the country, but they are still home to me and I love just being near water and canopies of trees.

Walking up to Ima Hogg’s house, I was stunned! Probably the most beautiful, historical home in all of Houston & I couldn’t believe I’d never toured it before. I could just imagine all sorts of fancy parties and gatherings being hosted in the expansive fields and gardens around the property.

It was getting dark & threatening to rain as we toured the house. We had to leave our drinks & cameras outside, but I enjoyed the elaborate and ornately decorated rooms throughout the house and learning about one of Houston’s most influential ladies.

I am putting this place on my “visit again” list, hopefully in the spring when everything is blooming & it’s not dark outside!

So glad I did some exploring and found a cool new piece of Houston history- I’d highly recommend checking out Bayou Bend for any other life-long Houstonians out there.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Friday funday! Excited about relaxing this weekend and getting myself in the Thanksgiving spirit.
