I’ve got a very special guest post from a fellow Houston blogger. I’d done a guest post for her about traveling & I told her I really needed to get on the twitter bandwagon. I asked her for a guest post to help me get started since I was afraid of taking the plunge and adding one more social media to keep up with in my life.

Hi! My name is Tara and I blog over at Dashing in Pearls. I write about the more exciting parts of my life. Sometimes it’s the things I’ve cooked or baked, sometimes it’s my workout, sometimes it’s about my super sweet boyfriend, and sometimes it’s something crafty I’ve made! I’m a 4th grade math and science teacher in the Houston area but don’t blog too many details about that for safety/security reasons.
Amanda asked me to answer a few questions about Twitter. She’s new to Twitter so go follow her at ClickTheGoodNew (no s) and follow me at DashinginPearls!
Why Twitter? How is it different from Facebook?
Twitter is a social networking and online microblogging site that is meant for sharing what’s going on now now in 140 characters or less. As a blogger, I like it because I can share little snippets of my life that I wouldn’t necessarily put into a blog post. Things like…
I also have my blog linked so that whenever I post, it also posts to Twitter. I use Twitter for blog-related things and Facebook for personal things. I do not have the two linked because I try to keep some sense of privacy on my blog. Facebook allows you to share just about anything- lots of pictures, relationship status, favorite quotes, employment, school, etc. Twitter narrows it down and keeps you in the now.
Another aspect of Twitter is that it allows you to follow a wide range of people. I follow Self Magazine, Conan O’Brien, Anderson Cooper, a few IRL friends and a lot of bloggers.
Can I have two separate accounts- one for my blog and one that is personal?
Yes! You can link them through your smartphone and switch between the two on the actual Twitter website. I personally only have my blog account.
Get me started with some people I should follow…
Me! Oh, you mean some others?
Self Magazine
Runner’s World
E from One Twenty Five
The Pioneer Woman
Are there any rules (etiquette) or lingo or tricks?
There isn’t a lot to know. RT is a retweet from a different follower. Type @ before someone’s Twitter handle to tweet directly to them. Hashtags (#) are used to categorize tweets.
I hope this helps with any Twitter questions you may have! Here’s a link to the Help Center incase you have more questions!
