Sunday Scribblings #254 Sensation: There are a lot of ways you can go with this word, and I’m not going to sway you either way so that your imagination can run wild!
Such a strange sensation to be sitting in a hotel room after working all day on a Sunday. It’s rare that work requires travel on weekends, but today was the exception to the rule as I headed out to Lubbock right after church today. But I’m working on a project as the lead engineer for the second time in a few weeks & I really enjoyed the sensation of being in charge. I like the responsibility and interacting with the clients, and I am hopeful that it will lead to more direct work for me in the future.
I’d be remiss to not discuss 9/11 on the 10th anniversary of one of the most monumental days in our country’s history. I first wrote about *my* story of where I was during that fateful day, but I haven’t really blogged about it much in recent years. To me, there is a sensation of loss more profound than just the lives lost on that day. It’s about the bigger sensation of how much larger the impacts of the terrorism were on our society as a whole. More than the tragedy of that day, we have given up so many freedoms and rights in our pursuit to avoid terrorism at any price. The sensation that we are scared of everything and everybody and anything at all happening makes my heart sink and my soul sad. I know it’s great to think that we beat terrorism and wave our flags patriotically declaring victory, but truthfully I feel like we’ve lost the battle. From the enormous financial burden of two wars to the trampling of our Constitution through things like the PATRIOT Act and the TSA insanity, I feel defeated.
Moving onto happier things, I love the sensations of finishing a marathon, enjoying a challenging yoga workout, experiencing the rewards of teaching and tutoring others, the thrill of traveling to new places, and just simply spending time with my husband. They are all such different sensations, but to rewarding and wonderful. I’m reading an interesting book right now about plowing through life on auto-pilot with really living, really feeling the sensations of life. I’ve got the sensation of getting very sleep & a rude 430AM wake up call, so that’s all I’ll scribble this evening.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Over 90 people were baptized at church this morning & we heard an awesome sermon.
