I’m going to try to finish up the Costa Rica posts this week. After spending 4 amazing nights at The Springs Resort, we caught a flight through San Jose to our next destination- Tamarindo. As usual, it was pouring down rain at the La Fortuna airport & we were on a tiny plane (the 2 of us + the family of 4 where one kid sat up in the co-pilot seat).

For some reason, our boarding passes & luggage tags cracked me up- so tiny and adorable. It’s a good time to mention the departure tax that is required in Costa Rica. We had to pay it on this flight & also a much larger fee on our way out of Liberia on our last day.

Our second plane, from San Jose to Tamarindo was super cool- it was HUGE picture windows so I had an awesome view on the 45 minute flight towards the Pacific coast. Initially weather forced us to land at the main international airport (where we’d originally flown into Costa Rica) & then we had to wait for the weather to pass to fly over to the domestic airport.

I love flying over places & getting a feel for the countryside.

Everything was so green & lush from all the rains. You can really get an appreciation for the topography of the land seeing all the rivers and valleys from the air.

One of the other really striking things was the contract between all the green & the red tin roofs. We were told during our San Jose city tour that they make the roofs metal because they are cheap & they are durable enough to withstand the numerous earthquakes.

Then we actually flew back over the international airport, where we’d been stuck just 30 minutes earlier.

Just a few minutes above the clouds and we were out on the coast- checking out all the rivers and estuaries flowing into the bay.

There were a few bigger resorts, but most of the places were small & tucked nicely into the surrounding jungle. That beach over to the left is where we would take our surfing lessons in just a few short days.

There were about a dozen people on the plane with us, but we were the only ones to get off in Tamarindo. The rest were headed over to Liberia & we got shaken down by the baggage guys here who demanded money for insisting on carrying our bags just a few feet. Very annoying since we had no small bills & didn’t ask for their assistance. Fortunately, the representative from our hotel was there to meet us & whisked us off to another stunning hotel.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Camera is on it’s way back from Nikon- hopefully all clean & spot free.

It’s so hard to get a grasp on those lush green grounds considering what we have been dealing with here. Simply stunning!
