A few weekend ago, I took a girls trip to Dallas to get out of town & visit a few more wineries. Unfortunately, I didn’t do any planning ahead of time & just ended up a few randome places after we decided to start in Grapevine. The first spot we saw was Homestead Winery, just off Main Street.

Set in a cute little old house, the inside was full of the typical wine junk & trinkets for sale.

They had a huge selection to choose from & we all tried 4 different wines. My favorite thing about this place was that they had crackers and dark chocolate Hershey kisses out to have with your wine.

Did I mention it was like 106 degrees? It was insanely hot & all I wanted to do was drink whites!

Grapevine itself is pretty cute & we walked down Main Street checking out a few shops. We did olive oil tastings and were so hot we needed to stop for some gelatto.

Typical quaint little town that has been turned into a tourist mecca with clothing & antique shops.

I did adore the farmers market where they would cut up fresh fruit and let you try it before buying it!

Ready for more wine, we drove around the block to La Buena Vida and the La Bodega Winery. They were setting up for an evening wedding, so we didn’t stay too long, but they had a beautiful grounds, even if their vineyards were a bit parched by the Texas summer.

I could totally see hanging out here on a lovely spring or fall evening, with the waterfalls & fire pits going, but it was too hot to stay in July!

Our third and final stop of the day (since we got a late start) was at Cross Timbers Winery, just north of Grapevine in this adorable house.

It was a smaller little place, but they had a full menu of wines for tasting & we snagged this private little side room. I love cozy old houses & looking through all the albums of gorgeous weddings that had taken place on the property.

By that time, I was getting all the extra tastings from our designated driver & super awesome host Sue. She let us crash at her house & chauffeured us around to all our wineries.

Back at Sue’s house, we made up some beer margaritas and hit the pool to cool off before going out for a fancy dinner. Although a super short getaway, it was nice hanging out with the girls and catching up on everything that’s going on in their lives. We want to get back to Dallas for the state fair this fall- hopefully when it’s cooler.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: The only redeeming aspect of being totally soaking wet after my 12.5 mile jog this morning was that I hopped straight into mom’s pool to cool off with the puppies.

Grapevine is a cute little city! We go there to walk the Main street shops and do wine tasting also. We just discovered La Buena Vida last time we were there and stopped in to purchase some of their Red Headed Stepchild Sangria. I think fall would be a better time to visit since there is so much to do outdoors there. In April they have a jazz-wine train that you can ride in the evening and taste different wines from the different winery’s there. You can check it out here: https://www.grapevinetexasusa.com/FestivalsAndEvents/NewVintageWineGalleryTrail/JazzWineTrains/tabid/791/Default.aspx
Glad you had fun!
Awesome! I’ve been wanting to drink more whites too since it’s so blooming hot here in Vegas. What would you recommend since I’m a newbie at whites? I’m not into super dry whites.

Yum beer margaritas, I’ve actually never heard of them, but just looked the receipe up for our party tomorrow
Thanks.
They were super easy and very tasty (a great alternative if you aren’t a huge tequila fan). Hope your turned out well!
HA! I’m the last person to ask about wine selection. My favorites are things like Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Grigios, but I really like most of them. To me, chardonnay can taste very different if it’s oaked or unoaked. For years, I thought I didn’t really like char, but have had a few lately that I’ve enjoyed. Happy sipping!
Thanks for the link- there looks like there is a lot more to do in that area, ya know if I actually planned it well! I’ll hopefully be back with hubby one day.
What a fun weekend getaway! I will have to remember this for…the Fall and Winter when I actually have a life! How lame am I that I never realized Grapevine was a fab little winery haven?! Uh…duh…GRAPEvine. I really do feel dumb.
