Spring Cleaning

So my clothes situation has been out of control for a few months & I’d been anxious to have a free weekend at home to start cleaning things out.  When we moved last year, I think I pretty much just grabbed everything & didn’t really do much purging of old clothes.  Last weekend, I decided to tackle my dresser by emptying out every drawer & getting rid of as much as I could.

First up was my running drawer with years of accumulated running shorts, running shirts & sports bras.  I threw them all on the ground, tossed the old stuff, wished I could find some longer running shorts, folded up the remaining items and put them neatly back into their drawer into three neat piles.

Second drawer down was shorts & misc. stuff. I ended up making room for all my yoga pants, shawls in the same place with my lounging shorts.

Third drawer down was all my “technical” pants and shirts that are made from the quick-dry fabric.  I have a 4 pair of north face pants that can be rolled up or worn down that I love wearing to work in the summer heat.  I also have several more looser fitting pants for work (or fishing) since it’s too hot and miserable to wear jeans while working outside in the summer and the pockets come in handy on inspections.  Refolded & tossing a few things, now I’ve got a work pile, casual pile & shorts pile in the drawer.

Bottom drawer was the swimsuits, which really didn’t look much different before or after, except that I can actually close the drawer now.  Yup, I had over 20 suits- some of them more than 7 years old.  I think I threw out at least 10 since I’d bought a few recently & really just needed to let go!

Top right drawer is all socks! Considering I wear flip-flops and sandals about 90% of the time, I really can’t figure out why I have 40 pairs of socks!   I do use them for running & work, and I really couldn’t bring myself to throw any of them away.  I’ll try to start tossing them if I wear them & they are losing their elastic.  I kept a few for winter work & keeping my feet warm around the house, plus my longhorn socks for my longhorn boots.

2nd drawer on the right side is casual shirts. I tossed a few & straightened things out so I have to stacks of camis/undershirts, a pile of cotton shirts & a few summer shirt.

Bottom two drawers were more shirts- both long sleeve shirts & t-shirts, both of which I was able to toss quite a few older things.

This is the giant pile of stuff that I ended up taking out of my dresser & giving away.  It only took me about an hour & it felt so good to be organized and neat, plus know that I didn’t have to look at all these clothes I don’t want anymore.  Next up is my closet- but I better allow for 2-3 hours!

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: I’m off on a local inspection today & hubby comes home so we can celebrate his awesome meeting.

  1. 20 swimsuits!!!!!!! That is crazy. I can relate with the 40 pairs of socks. I have so many socks and usually only wear flip flops or sandals.
