Capitol of Arkansas

Last week, when I was in Little Rock, I had time to squeeze in a little run around downtown before heading to work.  I love running & seeing a town before everybody wakes up and rushes of to work.  I grabbed my tiny P&S camera and took off towards the capitol

The grounds were typical capital grounds bathed in the early morning sunlight- lots of trails, beautiful old trees, several war memorial statues.

I’d usually just run a loop around the outside, but I wandered up to the back door & was able to go inside and check it out, gym shorts and sweat-covered!  They have a beautiful center rotunda that reminded me of the one in Austin.  The general layout was similar- with two large wings on either side of the main atrium area.

Spotting a beautiful marble (granite?) staircase, I simply couldn’t resist jogging up.  I was stoked to find their Supreme Court!  Most states I’ve visited, this is a separate building, but I could walk right up and peek into the state’s highest judiciary.

Around the corner, another staircase beckoned me to run up & I found a gorgeous skylight and their Senate Chambers situated above the Supreme Court.

Although restricted by a glass wall, I got my own private view of the Senate chambers and its amazing dome.

I walked as respectfully as I could in my workout clothes to the other end of the building to find the House of Representatives chambers adorned with it’s own gorgeous skylight dome.  I grabbed a quick view over the edge to look down into the Rotunda and passed by their “class photo” which cracked me up for no real reason.

Heading back downstairs, I found the Governor’s office or at least meeting rooms just below.  This was by far one of the coolest city-jogs I’ve ever been on- usually it’s just buildings or rural neighborhoods when I’m traveling for work.  Little Rock & the Clinton Presidential Library are on our short travel list, so I’m sure I’ll be back here one day to take the proper tour and some decent photos.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: My camera was shipped off yesterday to Nikon to be cleaned & I’m crossing my fingers they return it quickly.
