New Sony Camera

My waterproof, shockproof P&S camera that lives in mu purse made its final death on our Costa Rica trip.  I’d been disappointed in the picture quality for a while & there was moisture inside the lens that would cause it fog up if it was hot outside.  It’s covered quite a few marathons with me, but I was ready for something new- smaller, faster, cooler,  and I decided to purchase the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX10.  The front cover slides up & down to protect the lens (hopefully fewer fingerprints while I am carrying while running) & the back is a touchscreen.

Here’s how my last 3 P&S cameras compare- the Sony is even smaller (than a deck of cards), thinner, lighter & shorter.  It doesn’t have the awesome zoom that my old Panasonic DMC-TZ5 had, but I’ll take the big camera if I really want zoomed photos.  Yes, this does officially put me on track as getting a new P&S camera every year!

For some reason, I always have to wait to take a meaningful first shot to christen any new camera or lens.  When hubby comes into my office to visit, he lays on the couch & cuddles with the dogs, while they growl and tug over toys.  I took it out to the pool the next day for a “real” test to see how it did in the water & with flying dogs.

These are a bit out of focus, but I think they are pretty darn good for capturing the action.  I liked the burst mode & that I can also do HD movies in/near the water now.

Have I mentioned lately that Mia is a crazy pool jumper?  I love how the camera shutter speed was fast enough to catch all the splashes in mid-air and it looks like Mia is about to land on me while Zoe is shaking off all the splashed water.  I’m excited about the new camera, hope it lasts more than a year, can’t wait to take it on my fall marathons & sneak it into concerts.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Last day of 100+ degree temperatures in the forecast!

Busy Season

While I was hanging around hubby’s office the other day, I thought I’d snap some photos.  One of the reasons I’m passionate about photography is the chance to capture & record history, to cherish and remember the past, to remember the times and places where you spent so much of your life.

Yesterday,  hubby celebrated his 6th anniversary with his company & what an amazing & wild ride it has been.  He is in sales and has worked incredibly hard and accomplished amazing things in such a short time.   His office is sparsely decorated, save one frame with engagement pictures that I forced him to put up & a few of the awards he has won over the years.

We both “talk work” at home often since our careers are such a big part of our lives & I’ve heard numerous stories about all the production meetings, customer press checks, and the sales meetings that take place in this conference room.

This is the area between the hallway and his office at the end called the pit & where all of the customer service reps work on his various projects.  I really need to do something nice for all the ladies for putting up with him for all these years.

He was busy trying to do a few things on Sunday afternoon so we could get to dinner & didn’t really appreciate my camera in his face.

Every fall, one of his clients goes through an annual printing cycle & that means it’s busy season.  It usually entails lots of late nights, weekend check-ins at the office for proofing, even more than the usual number of emails and lots of last minute plans changes for us.  And on that note, sadly, we don’t be able to go to San Fran this weekend & this will be the 2nd SF trip we’ve cancelled because of his work. You’d think I’d learn by now, but I’m still super bummed we can’t go.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Girls happy hour this afternoon!

Another Jeep in the House

Hubby has officially had his Murano 3 months shy of 3 years & decided he wanted some new wheels.  He’d been checking out cars for a few months & I vetoed his plan to get a little weekend classic roadster, and when he started looking into them last weekend, he really loved the new Jeep Grand Cherokees.

I’ve had my Jeep Grand Cherokee for almost  8 years & it’s been a love-hate relationship.  Hopefully hubby will have much better luck with his than I did with mine.  He’s thrilled & happy to have a new ride for all those hours he sits in traffic every week.

My favorite thing so far is the ventilated seats that keep the black leather from reaching 110 degrees like the exterior.

He’s got all the bells & whistles, including a 4×4 we will probably never use,  and he couldn’t live without his nav system and Sirius radio.

The other big thing he was excited about was the enormous sunroof (or ejection portal as I say in my business).  It was too hot & sunny this weekend to open it much, but I look forward to cruising around with it open this fall.

Since hubby got a new car, I decided I deserved a new fancy lens!  I’ve rented the Nikon 85mm f/1.4G before and loved how it takes incredible portraits.  I probably won’t be using it too much right now, but it will be a lens I hang on to for years.

I was in town hanging out with some other Houston bloggers & H was working, so we met up for dinner…I can’t believe we are now a 2 Jeep family!

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  For the first time in months, the forecast has rain and some high temps of “only 90″ degrees this week!

Coors Field in Denver

July 4th weekend, hubby set out to see another baseball stadium- this time Coors Field in downtown Denver.

I really do adore urban baseball parks- where the cities buzz with activity in the bars, pubs and restaurants surrounding the stadium on game day.

I honestly didn’t get much of a de-brief from his trip since we went full speed into our other July 4th weekend plans, so I’m stuck posting pictures without any stories to go along.

And also it was almost 2 months ago & I am trying to get back to all the posts & photos I missed out on.   He was planning on visiting another stadium in Kansas last weekend, but some other life crises came up at the last minute.  I think he is done with stadiums for this season & will have to plan better next year to get a few more stadiums.  Oh, and his work has forced us to cancel our San Fran trip for Labor day (MAJOR BUMMER!), so no Giants stadium either this year.

Since it was a super short trip, they didn’t get to do much sightseeing & I can’t believe he missed seeing the gorgeous Colorado capitol building, but I”m glad that he wants to go back again.

Hubby did much better with his photos this time & even snagged me a one of my favorite things- a clock!  And a very neat one at that.

It looks like a really pretty park & I’m more than bummed that I couldn’t make the trip with him- especially since they have a mini-forrest in the outfield.

They were at the game waaay early since they’d finished up their brewery tour & just walked downtown to the game.

My only consolation about missing this trip is that I’ve got 2 trips of my own to Denver this fall & I’m super-excited to get up there in the  mountains (September ) for some photography & visit with family for the Denver marathon (October).

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  Meeting up with some awesome Houston blogging gals this afternoon for wine!

Boys & Beer in Denver

Forth of July weekend, before our dinner cruise & swimming with the boys, H and his best friend headed to Denver for a quick trip to see another baseball stadium.  Saturday morning they drove to Golden, but decided to skip the Coors tour and headed back downtown for walking tour of micro-breweries.

Because of all my traveling in June (Seattle and tons of work trips), I thought it would be too much to take on another trip.   I was planning on going to Denver twice this fall, so I reluctnatly passed on the trip & hubby was glad to spend some guy time with Matt exploring a new city before the game.

They said the tour was a blast & they really enjoyed trying different beers and meeting cool people on their tour with them.

I’m not a beer girl- haven’t had one in probably 10 years.  Hubby doesn’t drink beer usually, but he’s much more likely to drink with his buddies on a hot day or at the beach.

They enjoyed several breweries and tasted lots of beers before heading to  the Rockies game that night.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  18 mile training run done & only te dreaded 21 miler to go in a few weeks!
