Coupeville

Heading north on Whidbey Island, I was told to stop off in the town of Coupeville as it was one of the oldest in the area that had been settled in 1852.  Much like Langley, it had a variety of cute little waterfront shops and restaurants.

I was amazed at how quickly the weather cleared up and what great views the waterfront had to offer.

I wandered up and down the main street looking for a lunch spot and enjoying the old buildings.

Then I came to the pier and noticed a restaurant out on the end where I could enjoy the sun, water and views.

Unfortunately, Kim’s restaurant was pretty bad.  The food was just very typical restaurant fried stuff & I’d been expecting something really good.  Luckily, the atmosphere and location made up for the bleh food.

I enjoyed watching the rocky coastline where the forest met the waves.

There were some crazy clouds starting to form off on the horizon and I wondered if I was in for  more rain on my journey.

I could see all the little restaurants and shops lined up on main street from the end of the pier.

Also in town, there was a little museum with some history that was said to be quite nice, but I was eager to get moving on my road trip and didn’t stop in for a tour.

Continuing on the beautiful winding roads along the coast, I caught a glimpse of these things in the water.  There were dozens of floating islands for something- I’m thinking maybe some type of seafood or farming?  Anybody have an idea waht these are for?

Near the north end of the island, there is a large Naval Air Station and lots of military people headed to this base with these cool airplanes outside.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Friday sounds like a great day to try surfing!
