Safeco Field

My first stop in Seattle was at the Expo to pick up my packet before heading out of town.  This part of downtown Seattle is jam packed with the baseball stadium, the football stadium, and the convention center.  Since there were games Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, they were expecting this area to be packed and parking to be difficult later in the day.

Part of the original intent of the trip was for hubby to see another baseball stadium, but we ended up with a way better trip to Costa Rica so he skipped the Washington trip.  I decided to head over to the park since it was only a block away and see what I could check out from the outside.

There appeared to be a few bars, pubs, and restaurants in the surrounding area but nothing like in San Diego.

I did think these gates were pretty cool & beautiful.  Each had a short story or quote about baseball on them & let you peek inside.  There were no great views of the field from outside the park & I peeked through a gate to get the shot above.

In the main entrance, there was a massive bat tornado (for lack of a better description) hanging over the stairs.  The field is actually backed up to a very large railroad track on one side where the retractable roofs hangs over and it’s not easy to circle around the park with busy streets and freeways surrounding it.

I was too lazy to walk across the street to get a better shot of the entrance, so I took several wide angle shots and Photoshop stitched them together for me into a wide angle shot of the main entrance.

Not too impressed with the park from the outside, but maybe I will get back to Seattle sometime next year and check out the inside.

I didn’t do any real sightseeing downtown since I’d been up to the Space needle when I was in Seattle in 2006.  I did catch a glimpse of it on my way out of town as I headed out of town for a quick overnight getaway to one of the many beautiful islands in the Puget Sound area.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: 9 days of vacation starting at 5PM tonight!
