We awoke early Saturday in San Diego in efforts to pack as much into our single day of sightseeing. It was a bit overcast as I peeked out onto our balcony towards downtown. It’s hard to see, but it’s surrounded by water one one side and hills behind us.

We could see the historic sailboat America & wish we had time for some type of harbor cruise & caught a glimpse of the gigantic Marine Corp base on Coronado Island.

We did a quick loop through Balboa Park where we missed all the cool stuff & then headed downtown to check out the historic Gas Lamp Quarter, the outside of Petco Park & get ready for the Expo to open at the convention center so I could get my race packet. I was impressed with all the beautifully blooming trees & great art we found everywhere.

Oh, and the super swank highrises and condos with stunning views of the harbor.

The Gas Lamp area has a really interesting history & is now home to dozens of bars and restaurants. After packet pickup at the convention center, we kept walking towards the water and the marinas.

Walking along the waterfront towards Embarcadero Park, we were quickly over-taken by a group of Team in Training out for their last pre-race run.

Seaport Village is a cool area on the water with lots of little shops & a neat Spanish mission style architecture with courtyards, flowers & a neat old merry-go-round.

So peaceful & idylic to walk along the marina early in the morning- wishing I could be back out on the water again.

As we continued walking up the boardwalk towards the U.S.S. Midway for our next stop, I spotted more yummy condos & was reminded of all the great condos that lined the Miami shoreline.

We took a pedicab back to our car to save my legs & feet for the race. More beautiful hotels, a sleek trolley & a gorgeous Gaslamp District.

When we returned to our hotel that night, we caught one last glimpse of the city as the sunset and set everything aglow. I am jealous of the amazing rooftop outdoor living room- complete with enormous fireplace & a hot tub-pool combo.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: I have 2 amazing men in my life to honor today on Father’s Day.
