We awoke early on Sunday and were down on the boat by 6AM & headed across the bay to find refuge from the 30+ mph winds and trying to find the fish.

We hopped in the shallow water just before 7AM with our guide as the sun was coming up. Last time, we fished in nice thick, neoprene waders to keep us warm, dry and protected.

This time we just wore long pants & boots. We were both a wee bit nervous as we started spotting jelly fish all around us. Our wonderful guide Rick assured us they weren’t the super-stinging king and just to shuffle our feet to avoid sting rays! Things looked really promising as we started waiting towards some guts (water channels) with a few slicks and lots of bait working.

Rick caught a few trout, but I only snagged a baby Redfish on my top water lure. We moved onto a few other spots, but the fish proved very elusive with the gusty winds.

Our last stop of the morning was this beautiful little pass where it got incredibly shallow and we were walking through grass and fast moving water.

We all fished very close and were casting into this deep pocket where the waters converged and flounder loved to hang out. Again, we stated off so promising with a few bites and hubby even caught his first flounder.

Unfortunately, that was all we got there besides a really gorgeous view. Total count on the day- 3 trout, 1 drum, and 1 flounder. We’ll have to try again!

It was a fairly overcast day so the lighting conditions weren’t nearly as good to take any scenic shots, but I still enjoyed getting out on the water & the challenge of trying to get a few good bird shots while zipping along in the boat at 25 mph.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: One full day to explore San Diego- think we are headed to Coronado Island.

Wow, these pictures are really gorgeous! I couldn’t even concentrate on what you wrote, I’m so impressed by the pics!

Aw- thanks! It’s so beautiful out there that it’s easy to get great shot. We just love being out on the water- so pretty & tranquil!
