I really like June 1st and it’s a nice milestone stop in the middle of a hectic year. It’s opposite day from New Years- exactly 6 months apart & the perfect opportunity to re-group and re-evaluate where this year has gone & where it’s going. I can’t believe 2011 has flown by so quickly- things have been crazy busy for both hubby and I personally and at work. I’ve got 2 personal trips this month (San Diego & Seattle) before spending a week at Lake Tahoe for work at the end of the month. And then we are off for a full week in Costa Rica in July and we’ve also got a girls’ weekend in Dallas at the end of the month. I’ve been cranking through one book a month & I’m really happy with how much time I’ve had to expand my little mind. Work has been at a nice pace this year- just submitted a second abstract for publication next year & we will be presenting our earlier paper in a few weeks for publication.
In the rush of discounts yesterday for National Running Day, I am officially now signed up for the half in Philly, the full in Denver and the full in San Antonio. A while back, I signed up for the full in Vegas in December, but I’m doubting I’ll actually do that one. We’ll see how eager I am to finish all these races after San Diego this weekend! I’m not exactly sure what came over me this year wanting to do all these marathons
. One of my goals this year was to run 20 miles/week and I’ve been doing great at that. I haven’t hit the treadmill as much as I would like, but I usually skip it on weeks before/after the marathons and I’m still running outdoors 2-3 times per week. I’ve clocked about 364 mile according to the Garmin and another34 on the treadmill, so I’m well on my way to my goal of 600+ miles this year. On the exercise theme, I’ve been really please with yoga too! I typically go Monday & Wednesday after running in the morning. With my crazy marathon & work travel schedule, I haven’t picked up too many Friday/Saturday classes, but I haven’t skipped any regular days either.

Now for the things I’m slacking on this year- THE GYM! I swear I haven’t been in months. I do yoga during my ordinary weights time & we’ve generally had plans on Sundays after church that force me to skip the pool. I’ve done a decent job of visiting with my grandparents, but I’d like to do better. With our lack of eating at home (and thus grocery shopping) I haven’t been swinging by the store as much as earlier this year. I made it all the way to May without getting behind on blogging & photos, but I am totally going to blame my laptop for setting me back hours on the airplane when I should have been working on posts and photos. This post makes 147 for the year & made me realize I should technically write this post at the *end* of June to get a full 6 months into 2011. I will hopefully have a new computer shortly though & I’ve got tons of photos to share (West Virginia, Vegas, Fishing, Memorial Day, a book review). Another lacking area has been working with Mia; I’d really hoped to get her a little more calm and obedient, but I just can’t find the time I need to work with her in a structured manner.
Well, that’s my mid-year update! I’ve got lots of things to look forward to & at least some (potential) downtime to rest and relax before the big end-of-year holidays. How’s everybody else’s year going?
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Several of my friends signed up for a few marathons yesterday!

Hi, new reader… I absolutely love your photography and blog.. everything looks great.
Yay for signing up for those marathons, that is awesome! Secret dream would be to totally run the SA half one day (but I’m still new at running and can only run like 3 miles at a time right now).

Thanks for the kind word!s You should totally sign up for the SA half. For several years I started out running 1 mile, taking a break & turning around to run right back home. I slowly got into longer distances, but there are some awesome training programs that will get your from 3 miles to a half or full marathon in less than 6 months. Check out http://www.usafit.com to see if there is a running group near you (or Team in Training) are both great ways to have schedules, courses, advice all at your fingertips. Good luck!
Wow, way to go! I would love to do the Rock n Roll run in S.A., but I think it’s out for me.
