Early Friday morning, we set out to drive the course so we could both see what we were in for on Saturday morning. The start line was at Centennial Park & we decided to stop at the Parthenon. Yup- a full size replica just like the one in Athens which was originally built to celebrate Nashville’s 100th birthday & had been upgraded ever since then.

We’d visited the ancient Parthenon, but it obviously was thousands of years older & it was so neat to see what it might have looked like when it was built. The first thing it looked was BIG! We felt so tiny walking around & were so amazed by the sheer size of the building and permanence of the millions of pounds of pillars stacked around you.

And on the inside, stood a 42′ golden statue of Athena- thought to be similar to one that was originally housed in the Parthenon. I’m still terribly confused by all the Greek mythology, but Athena is holding Nike in her hand- the goddess of victory in war & she’s also got a giant gold shield depicting various characters and battles.

The inside was really nicely done with a great history of the real Parthenon & how Nashville came to have a beautiful replica. I’d highly recommend stopping by for quick visit if you are in Nashville- it doesn’t take long & it’s pretty cheap, plus it’s the only one like it!

Centennial Park itself was beautiful- gorgeous trees, rolling hills and scenic lakes. It helped that we were there on an absolutely gorgeous day and I was happily on vacation with my hubby.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Hubby is off to Dallas for a few days & I’m going to get caught up on an few projects around the house while he’s out.
