After the Expo, our next stop was to head to the Capitol and mall area just a few blocks from our hotel, but we had to pass by the beautiful War Memorial plaza and stunning World War I monument.

There is a large open mall with several memorials and markers to various veteran and wars just south of the Capitol.

There is a stunning monument to World War I & I just loved the classic architecture and sense of strength displayed in the building.

We continued walking North towards the capitol, only to realize we’d arrived about 5 minutes after it had officially closed.

We didn’t get to go inside, which looked beatitude, but enjoyed checking out the surrounding grounds.

As we walked around the western side, we caught a glimpse of the State Supreme Court & the State Library just down the hill from us.

Walking around to the North side (or the front) of the capitol, we enjoyed the view of Bicentennial Mall in front of us. Designed after the mall in DC, this park was dedicated to the 200th birthday of the state of Tennessee. We eventually got down there to check it out & visit the very cool Farmer’s market and the run course actually goes through there.

The large sculpture of Andrew Jackson reminded me of the one we have of Sam Houston in our museum district & hubby was very excited to have visited the grave of President Polk who was buried there.

We finished our brief walking tour & headed back down to Broadway for our bar-hopping tour. The area around the capitol is really nice & there are a ton of things to see here.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: No class tonight, so I get to spend some extra time with hubby before he heads out of town for work the rest of the week.
