SS: Surrender

Sunday Scribblings #267: Surrender- I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about surrender.  Is surrender about letting go or giving up? Is it a process or a quick decision?  What do you make of surrender?

Seems like as good a topic as any to return to blogging.  I made it 4 full months before life caught up with me and I got behind on blogging.  With being sick last week & some chaos in our schedule, I just wasn’t in the mood to do it.  And I’m OK with that. My goal would be to post one post per day, but I just surrendered and stopped feeling guilty about not posting or getting behind.

In my world, surrender is much more about letting go.  I’m such a control-freak, planner, Type-A that I get all stressed out when there are unanswered questions, lingering issues to be worked out, any hint of uncertainty about the future or plans.  I’ve been trying to let go of the need to have it all worked out right now.  I’ll get my answers at the right time- I don’t really need them right now.  Between our busy calendars and trying to craft a last minute big trip this summer, I’ve been obsessing over details and wanting to have it all figured out instantly.  I’ve surrendered to letting my husband do things in his time, gave our wish-list over to a travel agent who will make the best choices and do all the arranging for us and have taken this past weekend to just unwind.

I’m not sure if it’s just because it’s Sunday, but so many of these Sunday Scribblings topics resonate on a spiritual note with me, and surrender certainly does.  I’m currently reading a great book on Christians relationships to government and politics, but the central theme and basis for the book is that Christians should surrender (and not fight) the ways of this world & focus their energies on the heavenly kingdom and not an earthly one. I’ve read several other books that talk about the role of surrender to a Christian- how we are to be willing to give up our time, possessions, even our life to follow Christ.   We are called to put our wants and desires second to those of others whom we are called to serve.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Absolutely amazing weather here & I’ve been sitting outside all weekend soaking it up.
