The Ryman Auditorium

Finally getting to blogging about Nashville- it appears a 2 week delay is about the norm for me.  Early Thursday morning, we headed out of town & planned on making the most of our long weekend around the marathon.  I love how hilly and green the land is flying into town & how the historic old city sits nestled on the banks of the Cumberland River.

We were starving for lunch & ready to see the city, so after we checked into our hotel, we headed out downtown.  We were greeted by many gorgeous old buildings, a lovely neighborhood park (that was a popular meeting spot for the large homeless population), art and culture around town (like the bike rack sculptures & country music coming out of many of the traffic signal boxes).

Nashville is such a fun & unique city- a blend of rich history and flair for the modern.  So many universities bring a young, hip vibe that feeds into the amazing music scene all around town.

There are many highlghts to see in Nashville if you are into country music & we decided to check out the Ryman Auditorium first.  The gorbeous building was originally a tabernacle back in the 1800′s and was eventually home to the Grand Ole Opry show for decades.

Situated in the heart of downtown, this landmark is full of history & memories.  We thought the museum and short film were really well laid out.  Great stories & memorabilia to read about and have a few moments of nostalgia.

The whole auditorium was recently remodeled & they still hold concerts there many nights out of the week for it’s incredible acoustics- some big names still come through occasionally.  It was neat wandering around and checking out the old architecture and seeing the original stage that so many famous people have played on through the years.

We also paid to do the back-stage tour & it was really lame.  All the dressing rooms are new & not original, they all looked about the same & you aren’t supposed to take photos.  All the guide did was point out the photos in each room & give about a 5 min talk in each of the dressing rooms.

The Ryman is a great (quick) place to visit, but skip the backstage tour.  I captured this shot of the beautiful roof line amid the modern day skyscrapers as we headed off towards the Expo.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Been a little under the weather since Friday, but finally got some
antibiotics today and will hopefully be feeling better soon.
