Camping at Buescher SP

Two weekends ago, we headed out of town to go camping again with friends. Our last time out camping was a year ago when we went camping at McKinney Falls State Park and we invited another set of friends to join us. Previously, when we’d camped at Buescher SP before, we had a little primitive shelter, but this time we decided to upgrade to a mini-cabin since the weather can be hot/cold this time of year & we had invited some friends that don’t have all the normal camping gear (tent & mattress). The cabin was great with bunk beds, a mini-fridge, microwave and a little table.

I got there a little bit before our friends, but since I was going to be alone for the evening (hubby was on a business trip to Philadelphia) and I didn’t have a tent to set up, I just unpacked and started relaxing on the porch with our great view & a good book (I’ve got several more book reviews coming up-  I’ve been on a roll).

The nice thing about this site was that there was still room for two tents to be set up in the area. Mark, a camping veteran, had his tent up in no time & poor Matt, on his first camping trip, was stuck struggling with an old-fashioned canvas tent with metal poles. He eventually threw in the towel & I let them borrow our tent for the weekend.

It was great that everybody was there early on Friday afternoon- we had fun fishing, relaxing, playing games & then finally setting up a fire in our BBQ pit since there was a burn ban in effect for all real fires.

It was my night to prepare dinner & we feasted on some massive beef & chicken kabobs, followed by S’mores and a few rounds of Catch Phrase.

We awoke Saturday morning to an overcast sky & lots of birds out trolling the lake.

Matt was in charge of breakfast & managed to make quite the feast just using the old fashioned pit with a little help from Mark.

My hubby showed up just as breakfast was put on the table & then we headed out to check out a little party going on down the road.

These obstacle course challenges are all the rage here & this Spartan race was huge. I think we were there around noon & there were just waves of people leaving and move coming to put themselves through the wet, muddy, hot, difficult paces with their friends.

We drove over to Bastrop just to enjoy the hilly, beautiful drive before lunch & then mostly just hung out catching up and swapping stories with our friends the rest of the day. What do you do if a strange, almost Boy Scout leader looking man, comes up to you and offers you a carrot? Well, my hubby takes it and eats it! Yup- so random and the whole incident was so strange.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Long run done this morning, hubby will be back in town shortly & I’m off to Yoga.
