Back in February, the annual Chocolate & Wine trail was taking places at wineries across Texas, so hubby & I headed out to check out a few more local ones. Our first stop was at a lovely little place about 45 minutes from our house directly North of Houston called Bernhardt Winery that was set out on a great hill overlooking some rolling hills (and I’m certain it’s more beautiful in the spring/summer).

I liked the really nice tasting room area & the many quirky details around the place- like this bird feeder in the shape of a church with a deer head mounted on the bell tower.

Their outdoor area is extensive & they make good use of the property for a number of events throughout the year, including a grape stomp.

There are many tables under the beautiful big trees to sit by the stage and listen to the live music they have almost every weekend.

The inside of the winery was just as inviting, with couches seated around a roaring fire & a large room for hosting special events and parties.

We just did a regular tasting & not the sweet wine tasting that those on the Chocolate trail were doing. Bernhardt has a very popular wine, Aggie Blush, which is named for Texas A&M University.

Their wine making room was open to the public & we could walk into check out things, even if there wasn’t much going on when were there.

All in all, a great little place. I love that it’s so close & we talked about meeting up there on some Sunday afternoons this summer with our friends to hang out on their hill, listen to music & sip on wine.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Finished my March book last night & I’m thinking of joining another group writing blog- 30 Days of Lists (even if I am starting late).

I’ve been there – it’s so cute and quaint, right?! I loved it – I lived in San Marcos throughout college and coming to Plantersville was almost like a slice of the hill country all over again. Beautiful pictures!
