In the spirit of Rodeo season, I thought it was about time to break out this old photo from 1983 for a Friday flashback. Mom says, I was sporting her boots & cowgirl hat. I have many fond memories of listening to old (70′s) & new (80′s) country when I was a child, attending live concerts at local dive bars & frequenting bluegrass festivals around Texas. Mom says it was taken in our living room (hello bright orange shag carpet for the first clue!) and I was singing Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again”. One of mom’s all-time favorite artists & somebody I still listen to on occasion, I adore me some acoustic guitar and a mellow voice. Um, and yea, about that beer- I swear I wasn’t drinking it! To this day, I don’t like the taste of beer & don’t ever drink it.
If you aren’t from these parts, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (HLSR) is a BIG DEAL around here- meaning almost all of March. The whole town turns into party mode starting with the BBQ Cook-off, the trail ride & the Rodeo Houston Parade. I’ve blogged a full intro to the Houston Rodeo before (Rodeo: Bare Back Riding, Rodeo: Barrel Racing, Rodeo: Bull Riding, Rodeo: Calf Roping, Rodeo: Calf Scramble, Rodeo: Introduction & Fillers
, Rodeo: Steer Wrestling, Rodeo: Team Roping), but there really is so much more to do down there- the Ag show, the 4H competitions, the carnival and rides, the fair food, the equestrian events, the quilt show, the local school arts competition, the concerts and other ways to spend days at the show.

Mom thinks this photo was about 1982, but I can recognize my dad’s boat in the background. Yup, awesome red overalls were all the rage & I’ve kept my keen sense of fashion ever since then. Not everybody down here wears boots & a hat (all the time), but I do get dressed up in my cowgirl attire on occasion to go out dancing.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Hubby is headed to the rodeo tonight to see Janet Jackson with some clients & I’m headed out for some sushi.

Your little cowgirl photos are too cute. I love the rodeo! Who are y’all going to see this year? We’re seeing Keith Urban for sure and I’d like to go to Jason Aldean.

We were there last night too! Hubby was hosting a bunch of clients. We’ve seen Keith a few years now & he always puts on such a great show. I can’t believe he went into the audience!
