Snorkeling at Hol Chan

Instead of a first stop on our catamara cruise, we went to Caye Caulker and then stopped to go Snorkeling at Hol Chan Marine Reserve.  When your boat pulls up, a park ranger greets you & collects your park entrance fee.  What a great job, eh?

On this tour, our guide actually hopped in the water with us & led us around to various parts of the reef showing us different fish.

Hubby likes to chase the schools of fish.  It’s amazing to watch them move in response to you and all perfectly synchronized together.

We saw lots of really beautiful coral here & the guide went down to a deep overhang to point out an eel.

The water was generally pretty shallow here, but I loved the rich blue colors where the reef would drop off into the depths.

The clarity of the water was stunning & it was so neat to see so many fish swimming around, above and below you.

Hubby played & played, diving down deep to see things & chase the fish- he’s totally at home underwater.

I gave up my camera for hubby to take pics a few times & headed down to check out the school of fish.

We saw lots of different kinds of fish here & even a TURTLE!!

I have no idea, but turtles are just the coolest thing every in my book.  Granted, I’d be pretty flipping excited if we ran into some wild dolphins underwater too.

Hubby even found $10BZ in the grass that is prominent in this area is & I found a few ugly fish!  Notice I’m taking no chances that day & sporting my psi bands for motion sickness both above and below the surface.

This was the spectacular scene as we left Hol Chan & headed back to Ambergris.  I had such a blast snorkeling that I’d planned to do it on Saturday too, but the weather didn’t cooperate with us at all.  Since I’ve always been a water baby,I can’t believe I’ve made it 30 years of my life & never been on a really awesome snorkel before- it’s something I hope to do much more in the future.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  Dropped my camera at the rodeo, but luckily my filter took the brunt of the fall (cracking) but saved my lens and body.
