Forbidden Gardens

When H was in Hawaii, I went to a Flickr meet-up at Houston’s Forbidden Gardens.  Sadly, this incredible replica of the famous Terra Cotta Warriors in China will be closing down shortly & I wanted to see this amazing collection before it was too late.

The grounds are (were?? so sad) amazing & instantly transported me to a far-off world.

It was an over-cast cool morning, but I loved the sky reflection in the water as I started seeing my first soldiers & mini-sculptures all around the grounds.

Many years ago, a private collector wanted to bring the wonders of China to the USA & devoted his life to re-creating the exhibit just outside of Houston to introduce the history & culture of China with thousands of pieces that are scaled down versions of the real thing.

There are several distinct exhibits, but there are also tons of random miniature buildings throughout the property.  What really struck me was the juxtaposition of the incredibly detailed sculptures that were in utter shambles.  So beautifully broken, it was all the more tragic knowing they’d soon all be disassembled or sold off.

I have no idea what the giant sculptures are, but they are unique and interesting as they guard the main courtyard.

There are several educational exhibits about buildings, history, culture and architecture.

Just another one of the mini-buildings that I could get up close to & check all the intimate details that somebody painstakingly crafted by hand.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  Going to attend a my first hot yoga class this morning at the grand opening of a new yoga studio near me!

Sadly- they had to postpone their opening. :( Something about the fire Marshall & permitting. Hopefully it will be open soon- I’ve been anxiously waiting for over a month since I found out one was opening around the corner from me. I’m nervous to see if the heat will kick my booty!
