Xanadu Resort

We’ll get to all the pretty & fun Belize pictures in a few days, but a review of Xanadu Resort is the next easiest thing to do & my next photos in line since I take photos of our rooms as we check-in and before our suitcase explodes all over the room.  Things in general tend to be more expensive in Belize than places like Mexico or Jamaica, so we wanted to stay at a place with reasonable rates & not the *fancy* place on the island.  I searched Trip Advisor & Xanadu was rated very high. There website had tons of information & I loved the landscaping around the property with all the trees & vegetation.

I hadn’t really paid too much attention to the property since booking it, but I was pleasantly surprised to realize each of the buildings was an eco-friendly & super-strong geodome structure with a palapa room to give it the tropical feel.

We ended up with the entire bottom floor of one of the buildings, which included a large living room, kitchen, breakfast area, 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms & a very large porch.   One of the nice things was having full cable with dozens of stations to choose from when we were stuck inside on our rain day.

The two bedrooms were identical & my only small complaint is that we were in 2 queen (double?) beds instead of the requested king & we didn’t sleep as well.

The bathrooms were small, but functinoal.  The shower was nice & large, and I appreciated the shampoo, conditioner, shower gel that were provided.

Both rooms have plenty of lights, a ceiling fan, great A/C, a small TV, a safe & storage in the closet.

The table was all set when we walked in, but we cleared it off for all our stuff.  We bought a bunch of snacks & drinks at one of the many local stores, but never ate any meals here.  They did tell us that a few restaurants & the pizza place will deliver to the room though.  We certainly used the fridge for our drinks & we had great internet reception in our room.

They have a nice little pool area with plenty of shade  & a nice deck.  We didn’t hop in the pool much, but there were always people out enjoying it.

One  of the nice features is that they have their own dock.  You can get out in the water snorkeling right there or just sit out there to enjoy the water.  The front desk was incredibly helpful booking & changing excursions for us, and all the places will come pick you up on the Xandau dock.  You can see a few waves breaking way out on the horizon & that is the reef- close enough to borrow one of the kayaks & paddle out there yourself.  There is so much diving & snorkeling right off the island with no need to travel far.

They have a nice beach area too with lounge chairs, palapas and hammocks.  The beach front along the entire island is walkable & actually easier to walk along than the main roads to get into town or to the nearby restaurants & bars.  Although there is not a bar or restaurant at Xanadu, there are several options nearby or you can use the grill at the cabana to make your own meal.   All in all, we were really happy with Xandau- it fit our needs well, they were super friendly & helpful, we enjoying the relaxing feel to the place of the tropical landscaping.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Lazy Saturday- can’t remember the last time we had one!
