2010 by the Numbers

I’m waaaay late on this 2010 re-cap, but I’ve been trying really hard to get organized and caught up on all my photos.  And I’m so exited that I finally have enough data to start a spreadsheet! It’s every engineer’s dream to put all the numbers into Excel & keep everything even more organized.  I also like to see trends & keep count of everything.  Let’s start with photography….

Part of my problem is all these darn photos I’m taking and getting them backed up at the end of the year.  So I took a whopping 16,000+ photos last year!!  Thanks to Lightroom, you can see the breakdown of which cameras, which lens (I’m loyal to my 18-200!) and which months resulted in the most pictures.

I host most of my photos to share with friends & family on Flickr & that’s where they are hosted for the blog.  I need to do better next year about checking out my yearly stats, but here you an see how many of the 16,000 photos I took actually made it for sharing or use on the blog.

It was a crazy year for blogging as I switched from blogger to WordPress.  I don’t have the same tools set up as I did before to figure out how many pages views & traffic.  I did manage to blog 316 posts, even with being absent most of March & April, which is remarkably close to my total from 2009.

My first spreadsheet comparing years, which is great for photography & a little more tough for the blog since I don’t have as accurate a history on it. Looking back at my early digital years, I cry when I think about either A) how few photos I took (probably a bit true) and B) how many I didn’t save or are deleted/lost (waaa!).   I ‘m glad to have the photos I do have, but it’s crazy how exponentially my collection of photographs has grown & how I’ve been so steady at the blog since 2007.

Another sticking point on adding up all these numbers was that I really wanted to dig out all my running data from my old computer before I gave it away & re-check all the previous years for my running totals so I could add the correct numbers to my spreadsheet.  My grand total for 2010 is a whooping 810 miles!! I”m very proud of myself for that one, considering what a crazy hectic year we had.  My goal this year, beyond the multiple marathons I’m already signed up for, is to to average around 20 miles per week .

My first spreadsheet shows my mileage year over year for as long as I’ve been tracking my miles with a Garmin.  I started seriously running & training for my first marathon in 2002 & I’d love to know how many miles I’d covered since then.

It was also a very busy year travelwise- especially for work.  Continental has been changing the way the give out points/miles over the last few years, so I don’t have as many as previous years.  I still made Platinum for 2011, but not nearly as early in the year as I’ve made it in the past.  I’m saving up all those miles for a really good trip & slowly making my way to the million mile club.

Since starting my job, I’d switched hotel loyalty programs between Hilton & Marriott the first few years, but I’ve been a loyal Hilton-gal for the past few.  However, I didn’t think to write down my points/nights in the last few years.  They were no help when I called to ask about it, but Continental was able to tell me how many points & elite miles I’d earned all the way back to 2003!  Like I mentioned above, they have mostly stopped the double points & bonus programs, so I’m not really traveling that much less than previous years- they are just being stingier with the way the count flights.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  Off to SCUBA dive in Belize today!
