This intersection along highway 290 holds many peeks into my history & was a place I frequented quite a bit growing up. The first big attraction is the gym- formerly a President & First Lady (anybody remember those??), but it’s been a Bally Total Fitness since I started going there at age 15. This was the closest major area to my dad’s house growing up, so I have memories of going to the gym with them as a child. As soon as I could drive, I got my own membership to the gym & I used to go during my lunch hour when I was home from college interning. My dentist, whom I love (let me know if you need a good one!), and that I’ve referred at least a dozen people to is also on this corner. It’s also a popular way to go to Gram’s house- she’s lives way off the freeway & there are multiple (slow) ways to get to her house, but I usually end up coming through this intersection. The main attractions on either side of this intersection are a Super-Walmart, the one I grew up going to, and a giant movie theater, which I also grew up going to. Many of the stores in the shopping center have come & gone over the years, but both pool halls are still open, as are the Golden Corral and the Red Lobster. One more thing about this photo: that abandoned area up on the top right with industrial looking was a place I’d hang out as a teenager & we called it “the airport” for some unknown reason. It was close & usually empty place we could hang out some nights doing *teenage* things

The top of the photo is my dad’s old neighborhood- where he lived from ~1970 until 1997, and where my uncle and his family currently live. I spent (almost) every other weekend there & have memories of walking a few blocks to the local library to check out new books. I do remember Dad & Brenda going for jogs & bike ride around their old neighborhood. Sometimes I’d ride my bike alongside them as they went running. There’s a popular park & ride beside the HISD bus barn, but growing up, there were horse stable and areas where people rode their horses right there.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Warm beautiful, sunny day here & I’ve got nothing to do but spend it hanging out with my hubby!
