2010 Review

Oh what another amazing, whirlwind year!   I can’t believe how much we travel and crammed into the last 365 days- no wonder I was always behind on everything.  One of my goals this year is to “keep up” with things- not get to far behind that I have to call in help to get organized (Jodi, my new favorite virtual blog assistant,  helped me get caught up with the first 6 months of links) & have to ask my mom for help with our yearly album.   The two photos above are my year according to facebook status updates & facebook photos.

A little trip down memory lane to re-visit the highlights of my year on the blog and stay organized….

January

The dogs got lots of attention in January as Mia was big enough to play outside more, we started out the New Year at the dog park with lots of park playing .  The dogs went though a string of toys and playing (big stick at the parkbig stick fight, tennis ball wars, obnoxious toy, dogs howling at each other, tug chuckit, tennis ball time), which made working at home all but impossible.

We celebrated  Zoe’s 8th birthday and found a new wine bar,Cork, in downtown.

And the big event was my best friend Stephanie coming to town to celebrate her birthday, where we saw Houston above, and to run the 6th Houston Marathon with me and hang out at post race party.

February

February kicked off with a bang, as we made an offer on a house & started packing before leaving for 2 weeks in amazing New Zealand.  We celebrated Valentine’s day with a special dinner at Cova , after check out a new wine bar- Max’s Wine Dive.

We spent our 3rd anniversary at Mia’s CGC puppy class- barely passing!  I discovered Sugar Pie dinners & became a cooking queen.

Again, the blog was full of puppy adventures: A tug of war, stinky dogs, chasing sticksticks dogs, puppy mischief, under bed battle, chasing birds, mail 1989, dogs & raccoons, silence, dogs toys.

March

March was a light blogging month as life was in warp mode- we returned to our perfect house from NZ on the 7th, closed on our new home on the 12th, moved all our junk a few blocks on the 20th and started a remodel project on the 22nd!

Unfortunately I didn’t have too much time to get out with the dogs & they needed to stay calm during the mess, so they picked up some new habits and a new game, monkey in middle.  I took a blog break while going through a few thousand photos & trying to unpack, but my brother Hunter turned 16!   We finished out March with a sushi party with our friends at Liz’s house.

April

We  kicked off April with a fishing trip to Bayflats Lodge with my parents on Good Friday, and we attended our first iFest.

As with all the other months, plenty of puppy photos:  Mia mania, Spring in park, dirty dogs I celebrated my 30th birthday with all of our friends & family at a wine bar, including my best friend Stephanie who came to town.

The last day of April we headed out to McKinney Falls for a camping trip with our friends.

May

May was an awesome month- filled with friend, family and fun!  After 6 months, we finished watching an incredible series, The Wire.

We hosted an mini-open house & our first crawfish party, the dogs even got in to the party spirit.   We had the family over gain a few weeks later for our annual Mother’s Day tradition.  H was very busy with work- including several trips. In Atlanta he visited another baseball park, Turner Field and took a few pudding pies to the face in a Fundraiser, for his customers in Nashville who suffered during the flooding.

The kids were finishing out their year- Haley’s later year in junior high & Hunter just starting to drive.  Haley’s eighth grade recital and her eighth grade dance.  Hunter was king of the beach.

For Memorial day weekend, we headed down to Galveston ,walked along The Strand, check out Bacchus wine bar and the pool opened up when my brother & sister came to swim, Mia found spring her jumping legs.

June

June was a recovery month where we tried (unsuccessfully) to lay low, but still manged to paint my office so Pretty in Pink.

H had a work trip to Ohio, where he visited the Great American ballpark in Cincinnati, and I had a work trip that took me across Washington State from Spokane to Seattle- where I made an extended vacation to stay with family (Waterfalls of Spokane, Wenachtee Riverfront, Riverfront Park, Flying around Seattle, Beautiful drive, Visitor’s Center, Christine Falls, Nisqually River,  Mount Rainier National Park, UW-Tacoma, Glass Museum, Downtown Tacoma, Point Defiance Park, Ferry Ride Across the Harbor, flying over Mt Rainier).

Another work trip took me to upstate New York & Vermont where I visited the AdirondacksBurlington.

Mia celebrated her 1st birthday with a Mia’s Birthday swim and continued her spectacular jumping performances and I figured out how to upload a few old videos of the dogs (no room on the couch, &  Mia & the Chuck-It).

July

Us at the Liberty Bell, 4th of July, Philadelphia, PA

We spent the 4th of July holiday in Pennsylvania- first Pittsburgh (Heniz History Center, Downtown, The Strip District, Part 2, SouthSide Works Walk, Station Square, Monongahela Incline, Pirates Baseball Game, PNC Park, Driving to Philadelphia, Philadelphia City Hall & Love Park, walked down Ben Franklin Parkway before the 4th of July Festivities, walking around Downtown, the Historic District, Independence Hall & the Liberty Bell, cruising the rest of Philly & a baseball game at Citizens Bank Park.)

Another weekend out of town, we took my brother & sister to Austin to spend time with them & show them one of our favorite cities (Barton Springs, Kidz at the UT Campus, Mt. Bonnell, Oasis )

It was another month of hanging out with friends- this time at an Empanadas dinner party & to see the Broadway show Wicked, and found time to hang out at a few wine bars, D’Vine wine Cru Woodlands.  The kidz participated in VBS at the church & H got his first Smoker . Of course- more of the dogs playing and swimming (Good thing, so fast, silly squid, , toy time, hang time).  We checked out a new wine bar, Crescent moon and took some madly in love shots at another wine bar downtown.

August

Had a sultry & savory evening with our community for White Linen Nights in the Heights and checked out a stunning home that my dad finished building.

We traveled to Downtown Columbia, South Carolina for Adam’s Wedding, including the Rehearsal, Rehearsal Dinner, &  Adam’s Reception.  The wedding theme continued as we hosted a Bridal Shower for Pam & then we hung out more with the friends at Lake Conroe on the Jet skis & at an Astro’s game at Minute Maid Park.

Our Yard was looking pitiful, so we started renovations with phase 1, & the Kidz had Summertime fun.

We finally found some a replacement floatie for the pups in the pool.  And the dogs were still Running wild, Ms. Mia sunning, Torpedo time, Snapping Vizslas,

I started a 5 month adventure in blog make-overs by switched from blogger to WordPress with a new blog.

September

Haley started off her 15th year with a fun party & her eyes fixed on a super-Sweet 16 in 2011.

Getting ready for the big wedding involved lots of celebrating- a bachelorette party for Pam & Mark’s last birthday as a single man. The last blast of summer included a Pool Party over  Labor Day weekend.

Fall arrived early & I enjoyed hanging out in the backyard with the pups with a wrestling match, even after Mia Ate a Pillow.  I volunteered & then we attended the Houston Food & Wine Festival.

October

We kicked off the month with a very successful homecoming for Haley & Hunter, took the pups to the park an a cool fall day, visited Windy Winery & Pleasant Hill Winery on a lazy Saturday.

Rented a sweet lens & had the change to take photos of the Beautiful Haley , Mia swimming in the fall, & H’s cousins at the oil ranch & tried to get a good self-portrait.

We launched into Mark & Pam’s wedding with their JP Ceremony downtown, headed back to lovely Puerto Vallarta, stayed at one of our favorite all-inclusive hotels, Dreams, had fun in the pool & on the dance floor with friends, the rehearsal & dinner, the wedding ceremony & the party!

I visited another Houston wine bar for my ever-growing list, Block 7 Wine Company, and We celebrated a mellow Halloween at home, cooking & handing out candy.

November

We started off a very busy November with lots of fun stuff, including the Sarah McLachlan concert at Verizon, Feast with the Beast fundraiser at the Houston Zoo.  Continued volunteering at GED on Monday & Wednesday nights.

We hung out with friends at Mark’s Martini night & H traveled to Jacksonville with the Texans .   Finally received my new D700 camera & my first shots were, of course, the pups.

We celebrated Thanksgiving with our family & I visited my grandparents for their thanksgiving.  I flew to Philadelphia to run the Philly Marathon (second half & finish, pro[sucker]pics ) with my beautiful best friend Stephanie & her dog Ginger, where we also toured Independence Hall & explored the rest of Philly.

We enjoyed Thanksgiving with family before heading out to Fredericksburg for a long weekend to visit wineries, starting with a visiting to The Saltlick BBQ (Duchman Family Winery, Driftwood Vineyard, Wildseed Farms & Luckenbach, Sister Creek Vineyards, Bending Branch Winery, Singing Water Vineyards & Grape Creek Vineyards) and staying at the luxurious Paradise Loft B&B.   Dogs sleeping situation & Mia’s helicopter tail.

December
I worked on my office throughout the year, painting it & doing the floors, but finally finished up the last of the decorating in the late fall. We did a 2-day huge overhaul on our yard for Phase 2, including all new plants & lights front and back.  Started our Christmas decorations while cooking up my first pot of homemade chili.

December was a mad rush towards the Christmas holidays- sprinkled with some insane working time for H.   Jingle bell Mia &   looked back at the fall semester as the kidz rocked high school.  My crazy pups went to play in the woods & wished everybody a Merry Christmas!

We started out Christmas Eve at our house, then church, then with H’s mom in Round 1 and then Round 2 at Dad’s house on Christmas day with the kids, and then Round 3 at my mom’s house and finally- Christmas with Friends.

I hopped on the once in a lifetime opportunity to go to New York City for New Years Eve; I started my trip with with a Run through Central Park, checked out Grand Central Station, views from the top of the Rockefeller Center, Walking Cross Town, Times Square at Night, Lower Manhattan, Chinatown & Little Italy, Time’s Square New Years Eve & New York the Day After.

Dogs: Mia & the Harmonica & Squeaky Toy Time, and Girls & Toys.

Finally- I managed to wrap up most of the visible work on the blog overhaul by December as I moved to WordPress and made things all pretty around here & did some more painting in the house just before the holidays..

GOOD NEWS THE DAY:
500GB xHD is full of original photos from 05/2009 & all of 2010 (my previous 250GB xHD is full of all previous originals), so I’m moving everything to a 1TB xHD & using a new 2TB xHD as my backup- hopefully this was the reason why my iMac was running so slow & it will be all happy once everything (including those 2 million files on the trash can) are deleted and there is more room on my externals for photos.
