Chinatown & Little Italy

We continued walking northwards towards the magical & mystical building topped with the golden statue.  As we approached, I still had no idea what type of building it was other than extraordinary.  Something about a drive-through floor on the ground level is so charming.  I finally asked an officer & he informed me that it was simply a municipal building with ordinary city business.  I couldn’t believe such an amazing structure was an ordinary (local) government building.  We walked past a few other courthouses and city hall on our way to Chinatown.

Chinatown was a hustling, bustling chaos.  I envied all the fresh foods & just cooked meals, but wasn’t really interested in any of the fake goods they were selling.

Another stoic old building from an era gone by.  I’d love to live in a city with so much history & slowly get to know each building intimately- about it’s history and heyday, the stories hidden in the walls & the people that passed through such historic structures.

We wandered into Little Italy where the smells enticed us to try a cannoli & eventually have a delicious lunch.  I loved the quaint neighborhood feel of all the little shops with their quirks and personalities.

It was so cool to get to see all the Christmas decorations & I’m a huge sucker for lights spanning streets.   Very funny story about how we wandered into a spa, looking for a mani/pedi & ended up getting a couple’s massage.  Yea- that’s what you do with best friends when it’s 20 degrees out & anything sounds good to get inside and warm up.

We met up with Stephanie’s friend at lunch & then started making our way back towards Madison Square Garden to pick-up our final person.  We passed by some gorgeous holiday displays outside the giant retailers, and there was one (Lord & Taylor??) that had the most amazingly detailed moving window displays for the holidays.  I peeked inside a few stores to see the inside decorations, but didn’t want to stay long enough to be tempted to buy anything.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Happy 60th Birthday to my dad- can’t wait to throw him an amazing party tomorrow night.
