Walking Across the Big Apple

After leaving the Rockefeller Center, my next destination was across town at the Madison Square Garden to meet Stephanie as she arrived into town by bus.  Although I didn’t hit up a ton of big must-see items in NYC, I really just enjoyed wandering the streets, discovering beautiful buildings, watching people & soaking up the New York City state of mind.  In doing so, I passed back by the gorgeous Public Library of New York.

I was a bit smitten with this suspended bridge between two buildings- what was so important in either of them that they needed to be connected at such an elevated level?  It’s a gorgeous structure, but it left me with so many unanswered questions like “Why not at a higher floor?”  and “Is the walkway still in use?”  Walking further west, I glanced back & caught site of the Empire State Building towering above all the other stately buildings below.

I must admit I was a little disappointed in Madison Square Garden.  I’d heard all the hype about it & just assumed the outside was as nice as the inside- NOPE!  It was under construction, but I still took the subliminal hint from  their gigantic alcohol ads.  Since Stephanie’s bus was late due to weather & traffic, I plopped down at a Local, a bar just across the street, to have a snack & a drink while waiting.

Can you see 3 helicopters, 1 airplane, 3 NYPD vehicles & several feet of snow?

The post office across the street from MSG was another formidable structure that reminded me of the glory days of postal mail.

Finally Stephanie made it & we hung out with all the people who were going to the Phish concert while waiting for her other friend to arrive on the next bus.

Walking back towards our hotel, the Empire State Building was all lit up for the holidays!

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Made it back to the gym (finally!) this morning & I’m headed to a (literally) freezing Dallas this morning.
