Grand Central Station

After getting cleaned up from my Central Park Run, I scoped out my map & checked my watch.  I decided to make my way towards Rockefellar Center & take a scenic route to peek in Grand Central Station.  My path also took me through the wonderful & extremely tempting Diamond District.  The snow was still piled quite high in some areas, but I could still see all the sparkle in the windows.

Store after store, display cases full of gorgeous jewels & glittery fun things.  Then I’d occasionally come across a larger  than life billboard that was just as enticing.

I loved that you’d cross the street, look down the road, and catch a quick glimpse of a looming skyscraper overhead.  Nearing Grand Central, I got my first peek at the Empire State Building.

Approaching Grand Central, I was in awe.  This stately and majestic old building, adorned with intricate details, was surrounded and encircled by all the modern buildings.  The front is huge & I couldn’t get back far enough to get a good overall shot, nor could I figure out how to get on that bridge without walking way back up the road.

The inside it really jaw-dropping. I felt like I stepped back 100 years in time.  The cavernous inside, full of hustling and bustling people, hold the glamor and allure of days gone by when travel was a luxury and a special occasion.

As a gal from Houston, I’m still amazed at all forms of trains, trolleys, buses, subways and other public transportation.  We’ve got none of that here for most people!

I was in love with all the beautiful clocks hiding around, reminding travelers what time it was long before there were wristwatches.

I just did a brief walk through Grand Central, taking it in all its glory.  As I walked out the other side, I entered a regular office building sky scraper & was then out on the street in front of the Helmsley Building.

Thanks to the awesomeness that is Wikipedia on my iPhone, I could quickly read up on this building & satisfied my curiosity about this stately building that you can drive through.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Officially all booked up for diving on our trip to Belize in 6 weeks.
