Yard Phase 2

When we bought our new house in April, the yard had been fairly neglected for a few years.  We had many other projects to do inside, like remodeling the kitchen, before we could focus on the yard.  We did Phase 1 earlier this year to keep the dogs out of the mud in the back & had planned on doing the rest of the back yard ASAP.

However, since we are having several holiday functions at our home this holiday season, we decided that the front yard also needed a face lift.  The pine trees needed trimming, we had a very random assortment of mis-matched bushes and shrubs.

It looks so much neater & happier with some well placed new plants & some colorful winter pansies.  I can’t wait for them to grow & bloom in the spring.

I was amazed how quickly the yard crew worked.  The tore out EVERYTHING in the backyard & tons of stuff in the front yard the first day, trimmed up lots of trees, removed 2 large palm trees & made the new flower beds in the backyard.

Our neighbor’s trees have been slamming into our house with every little wind that blows & one of our top priorities was to get these beautiful, but destructive, trees trimmed back away from our bedroom.

I love before & after shots side-by-side.  The before were taken in mid-summer when everything was very green & the grass is mostly dead in the yard these days.

In addition to cutting down the palms, we took out all the plants along the fenceline & built new beds with some great plants & a rock border.  We added a little sitting area in the back of the yard which catches the last of the afternoon sunlight in that corner.

We also added landscape lighting, which I love at night!  Can’t wait to hang outside on summer nights & when it’s not so cold.

It’s hard to see with all the Christmas lights, but we did some lighting in the front yard too- around the door & shining up on a few of the plants & some of the brick facade.

I can’t believe how many pine needles have already fallen in the last week!  The yard looks great & now I just have to wait for spring for it to really take off & hopefully we can start Phase 3- the patio!

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  Exciting things at work- getting new equipment & tools and fancy stuff.
