Saltlick BBQ

The day after Thanksgiving we headed out on a road trip to get out of town & have a little quiet, romantic weekend.  Driving through Austin, we decided to have at wold-famous Saltlick BBQ original location in Driftwood.  It’s always listed as a “favorite” and a “top BBQ” restaurant, but we weren’t expecting the 1.5-2 hour wait time for a table!

I did love that they still have the original pit ring with pounds and pounds of BBQ being cooked up.  We opted for lunch to go, but it was still 30 minutes to get our food.

It was a chilly & windy day in Texas.  The Saltlick is cash only & BYOB, so it was funny to see so many people carrying coolers around.

We ended up sitting outside under the gorgeous trees, shivering at a picnic table.  The meat was really good, but we should NOT have split a plate.  At 3PM, we were both starving!

As usual, a funny picture of my husband trying to enjoy his meal in peace while I bother him with my camera.  I’d recommend going to the Saltlick, as it is a Texas landmark, but go on a day it isn’t going to be so crowded.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Tried my hand a pot of chili for dinner tonight- hopefully its not too hot!
