Flashback Friday: Dad, Nintendo & the Fireplace

Yes, this is a really old & out-of-focus photo.  No, it probably won’t mean anything to anybody but me.  I don’t know why I kept it or had it, but I do. I was looking through some old photos today & this one caught my eye.  Just yesterday, I had new gas logs installed in our fireplace.  They are easy, but of course they aren’t the real thing.   I have such fond memories from growing up sitting on the fireplace at my dad’s house, hot fire blazing, the periodic trips outside to get more logs.  Even though the main subject in this photo is out of focus & the photo is far from perfect, it still brings back so many memories and captures a part of my childhood.  From the dark wood paneling to the glass container full of souvenir matches, my dad playing Duck Hunt on my old Nintendo.  He had a full beard back then & much less gray hair, but still the same trusty watch & he still wears the same gold chain he’s worn for decades.  It’s ironic that this photo, even though less than stellar & generally mundane, is more valuable to me that so many of the posed family shots because  it holds so special  memories and insight into things my world during those years.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  Gorgeous day here & we’re going to bundle up tonight for Feast with the Beast at the Zoo and watching the Spin Doctors.
