Thanks to a request from one of my favorite bloggers & his Vizsla clan, I’m posting the Sarah McLachlan review from our concert on Tuesday night. I try really hard to keep all my photos in order- uploading them, processing them, blogging them. It’s going to take me forever to start going through all the photos from Mexico, so I thought I’d do a quick review of the concert. We’d been wanting to check out the Verizon Wireless Theater here in Houston for a while since it’s the last major venue we haven’t visited. It’s very small & intimate, especially depending on how they set up the floor. There’s 1 wrap-around bar that serves beer, mixed drinks & a few frozen concoctions, plus one cash bar set up in the entrance area. The upper-level is fairly small & set back quite a distance from the stage, but I loved the seats down on the floor.

We grabbed a quick dinner & the show started promptly at 7:30, just like t he tickets said. I was surprised to hear her already playing when we walked in- on time & no opening act.

We scored some awesome second row tickets & we were so close- it made the whole concert all the more awesome. I think this was only the 2nd show on her tour to promote her new album, Laws of Illusion. She sounds amazing- spectacular voice you love & expect!

She had to female backup singers & she was generous enough to use a large portion of her show to promote them. Each girl did 2 solo songs before & 2 solo songs after the intermission. Sarah sang backup vocals for them & danced along in the background. The girls were wonderful singers & I think it’s great that Sarah is promoting other young, female singers, but I was there to hear Sarah!

She played various guitars, rocked out on the piano, took questions from the audience from a hat, even answered a few questions that were shouted out to her- including “What do you think about the term vagina music?” Haha…she was very funny & sweet, and the crowd was constantly shouting “I love you Sarah!”.

She to0k a 20 minute intermission & finished up around 10:15 before starting an encore set that opened up with an acoustic version of Angel.

Great show! She’s so incredibly talented & the acoustics in the theater were excellent fully experience her amazing voice & talents. Besides the two other gals singing, Sarah only played one song I didn’t recognize (perhaps from her Afterglow album?), but the rest were from her new album or old favorites. If she’s coming to your city- I highly recommend getting to the show.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Getting some gas logs installed in the fireplace today- just in time for some chilly nights & snuggly weather.

Cool! That looks like a great show! We saw her in 1999 at Lilith Fair in Canandaigua back in New York but this looks like a lot more intimate concert. (We also saw Aimee Mann and the Pretenders there.) Oh, and I think you made Dennis blush.
