Let’s just make it a wine week & finish off things by blogging about the 1st Annual Houston Food & Wine Festival, which was held about a month ago at Sam Houston park downtown. I actually volunteered for about 4 hours on Saturday morning & that whole experience was quite a disaster. I’ve learned not to volunteer for things on their first year & run away from anything that isn’t being organized by people who really have their stuff together. Enough about that though- the Wine Fest was on a gorgeous weekend & in the shadow of our skyscrapers downtown.

There were several wineries there, but honestly only about half a dozen. Unfortunately, there was a much bigger (and probably better??) wine festival the same weekend down in Kemah which probably attracted many local wineries.

Early Saturday afternoon, the crowds were pretty light & they still had trouble keeping up with the demand for food & drink.

There were many booths with arts & crafts, even had some wine related decor.

We were first introduced to Pleasant Hill Winery at the festival & decided to skip the hassle with all the tasting tickets and just purchase a bottle.

All in all, I was a bit disappointed in the entire event. Hopefully the organizers will learn & make improvements for next year- I’d really like to see a successful wine event in Houston with better organization, more wineries, more food, easier access to the various wines & more vendors.

Luckily, our friend Mark & Pam were downtown & we met up with them to (continue to) celebrate Mark’s birthday. We grabbed some BBQ sandwiches & chips to accompany our bottle of wine & enjoyed them under a giant old oak tree.

We talked and planned for their wedding- they leave for Mexico today! We join them tomorrow…squeee!!

You know it’s a good day when you can eat, drink & nap!
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: 1 day in the office this week- 2 days on the road for work & 2 days on the road for fun!

That last photo showing a nap nearly made me weak in the knees. I could smell the grass, feel the sun on my face, nearly taste the delight of a truly relaxed moment.
