Philadelphia City Hall

Philadelphia City Hall

We departed our hotel & started walking towards the 4th of July festival area.  Turned one corner & we were face to face with this graceful & gorgeous city hall!

Philadelphia City Hall

The Philadelphia City Hall is nicer than many state capitols that I’ve seen.  It’s situated right in the middle of several streets intersecting, so you have to do a round-about if you want to drive around it.

We kept walking before I could get far enough away to get it all 550 feet in one shot.  It was the tallest building in Philly from the time it was constructed in 1901 until the mid-1980′s.

City Hall is surrounded on many sides by equally formidable and beautiful buildings, including this striking Masonic Temple.

On the west side of the square, a small park separates the City Hall from other nearby buildings.

I love visiting old cities & seeing the beautiful architectural details on buildings.  I guess so much of Houston’s construction was during the last quarter of the 20th century that we missed out on so many of these fine accents.

We wandered around & found ourselves at the entrance to the Comcast USB-shaped building.  Inside was air conditioned & offered the above neat view, and there was an amazing TV/audio display on a wall that looked like any other wall until a giant screen danced across it with musical instruments for a few brief seconds of entertainment.

I’m not sure if this is considered the “front” of City Hall, but I love the view as the street dead-ends into such a stately & magnificent landmark.

Speaking of landmarks, we kept wandering towards the northwest & came across the famous Love sculpture at Love Park.   It was throned by tourists & this was the best shot we could get without a million other people.

Fountains!  We discovered the beauty & awesomeness of fountains in the city.  It was SOOO hot this weekend & there were many people in and around the fountains cooling off.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Time for the weekend!  Gorgeous weather & lots of fun plans with hubby.
