Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
Back in June, I was lucky enough to turn a cool work trip to Washington into a long weekend with family in Tacoma. I only had 1 full day, so we decided to head up to Mount Rainier National Park- about 2 hours from their home.

Apparently, quite a bit of this part is not accessible during the winter. Summer was in full swing & things were beautiful when we were there. There is an easy, scenic walking trail near the visitor’s center above.

In New Zealand, I learned that beautiful mountains aren’t always cooperative & there was a constant cloud around the summit of Mt Rainier all day.

My Aunt & Uncle
My aunt & uncle love having company- they’ve only been up in the PacNW for about 10 years & really enjoying showing off the amazing beauty of the area.

We ended up doing a very cool driving tour through the park & made lots of stops to enjoy the scenery. This is about as good a shot of Mount Rainier that I got that day.

Mountains are amazing! I loved the giant river of rocks from an avalanche, how a small group of trees managed to withstand the avalanche or start growing in the midst of the rubble and the little river that winds it’s way down them mountain.

The scale of things in the park is amazing- that rock river below is probably 100 yards wide and it still looks tiny compared to the volcanic peak looming above it.

Coming from 100+ degrees in Houston & even pretty warm weather in other parts of Washington State, it’s crazy to suddenly be surrounded by tons of snow.

Apparently June is still very early in their summer & a great deal of the snow will melt off by August- just before fall arrives to start the whole process over again.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: This morning I went to my first Yoga class in years.
