The next thing on our house list is the backyard. There’s a random assortment of bushes and dozens of pencil cactus growing wild in the flowerbeds. There are lots of weeds mixed in with the grass & we added quite a few grass squares early in the spring when we moved in.
There is a decent sized patio slab on the back of the house, but we don’t really care for all the palm trees around the yard. The front corner up by the house is mostly dirt & tends to get very muddy when it rains.
Our plans are to expand the patio area & pave it with flagstone or some other rock. We toyed with the idea of a covered patio or pergola structure, but I think we would hate to block the view from the kitchen window.
There is a very pathetic flowerbed adjacent to the garage that needs to be saved & we want to cut down all the palm trees and redo all the flowerbeds.
Look t the leaping puppy! The yard is shaped like a pie slice, with it getting narrower near the back fence. It isn’t very big & doesn’t leave much room for the dogs to “play” once they have utilized the yard for other things.
We do have a pretty substantial area behind the garage and on the far side. It was mostly dirt (usually mud!) since there isn’t enough sunlight for grass to grow. The old fruit tree drops seeds/fruit on the ground and Mia managed to eat (and usually throw up) those things.
The other dog issue is that Zoe would take no more than 2 steps on the grass to do her business and thus she’d kill all the grass right by the patio and walkway area. So our first phase in yard renovations was to tackle the dog situation- get them to go somewhere else & to get rid of the mud they were constantly tracking into the house.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Off to Dallas for a day trip.
