Waipara Valley Food & Wine Festival

Waipara Food & Wine Festival, New Zealand

We’d originally had a half-day wine tour scheduled for our last afternoon in New Zealand.  Through some snafu, there was no record of our reservation :(   We tried calling a few other wine tours & somebody told us they were super busy because it was the weekend of the Waipara Valley Food & Wine Festival.  Since most of the vineyards would be closed to attend to festival, we decided to drive ourselves down there to enjoy our 2nd wine festival of the trip.

It was an awesome time- perfect weather, gorgeous setting around this old church & in the shade trees on a hill.

They had some awesome music- tons of people were sitting on the hill sipping on wine & singing along to the songs.

So the really funny story is that we had NO cash left at all & didn’t want to use more ATM’s to get cash.  We thought we could pay by credit card to get in (like the other festival), but no dice here!  After paying to get in, we only had about $30NZD left to buy wine & snacks for the day.

No sipping for us- it was cheaper to buy the whole bottle!  We were too funny walking around counting coins and looking for the cheapest snacks ($3 Nuts!).

Everybody there was so friendly & just mingling around drinking wine and having a grand old time.  We actually managed to find a $7 bottle & use our last dime of NZ money.

It was nearing harvest time in the area & many of the vines were covered with netting to protect them from the birds.

Back at the hotel, we wanted to walk around Christchurch square to see the people on the weekend.  However, the grass and sun were so nice that we decided to take a little nap out on the lawn and enjoy our last bit of R&R time.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY:  Clocked my first 2 miles on my treadmill today- 98  more to break it in.
