Last Saturday morning, we had a few hours to kill before we need to get into wedding mode, so we headed to downtown Columbia to check out the city. Our first stop was at their gorgeous capitol building. It was quiet and closed- quite a change from the bustling Texas capitol on a Saturday.

I was amazed at how detailed and beautiful all the design work on the building & how many gorgeous, enormous trees were on the capital grounds. The had a very cool African American memorial on one side of the capitol too.

They are still flying the confederate flag, although the Stars & Bars are somewhat hidden from the main passing traffic by this statue.

I climbed up a few of the stairs to pose for a shot.

This sculpture of George Washington out front is a few hundred years old & was damaged in the Civil War.

Every old town has a main street & Columbia’s was a lovely tree lined boulevard with lots of neat old shops and architecture.

Gotta love that the Palmetto State has an official sculpture (monument??) to the state’s tree namesake. It was interesting….
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Headed to Lake Conroe today for some jet ski & boating fun with friends.
