The Town of Fox Glacier is pretty darn tiny! I do think it is probably bigger than Te Anau, but it’s just because there is such a major tourist attraction here in hiking & heli-flights to the glacier.

There’s a semblance of a downtown area with a row of restaurants and art shops- most of which have outside seating so you can enjoy the fresh air and wildlife.

We ate lunch after our heli-flight at the Cook Saddle Cafe & Saloon – H was impressed with their ribs!

It was fairly cloudy down off the mountain & chilly enough to need my full jacket when the sun wasn’t out.

We wandered up and down the boardwalk area of town & mostly went back to our hotel to relax.

This is pretty much the total of town of Fox Glacier- Fox Glacier Guides is on the left & the place for meeting up for the heli-flights.

We drank lots of yummy New Zealand wine while on our vacation, including this interesting bottle called the Devil’s Staircase. I really wished we’d visited more wineries.

We walked into town both nights & had dinner The Plateau Cafe & Bar. It was VERY yummy. Just a small little place, where they bring the chalkboard menu around to your table when you order.

Fox Glacier was our last stop before heading back to Christchurch & we mostly used the 2 nights here to relax and get ready for our last hooray on the final leg of our journey. I really wanted to get out to Lake Matheson, but the weather didn’t appear too cooperative to give me some great reflection photos.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Last of the combat troops have left Iraq- WOOHOO!!!
