In the tiny town of Fox Glacier, I’d booked us the nicest hotel I could find- the Te Weheka Glacier Inn. Now the hotel is newer & much nicer than just about anything else in town, so we decided it was worth it to pay a few extra dollars and stay at a nice place. Honestly, I was probably most disappointed in this hotel over all the other places we stayed in New Zealand. I figured it was really pricey like The Hermitage at Mt Cook because of it’s exclusive location or great views, but there wasn’t really anything about this place that warranted such a high price. We paid $400 NZ per night (~ $280 USD), which is almost $100 NZ more than every other hotel besides the Hermitage & I just didn’t feel like this property offered anything extraordinary. It did include breakfast & an evening gathering, but not laundry & a limited internet, few TV channels and mediocre views.

This is our view from our room- the balcony was nice & we enjoyed leaving the door open for fresh air. Back towards that valley is where the heli-flight took off from & there are several smaller hotels/motels that would offer an actual view of the Fox Glacier and/or Mt Cook.

This was most of our view from the room back towards town The woman doing her laundry & hanging out in her backyard provided the most interesting thing to watch.

The rooms were named after famous people in New Zealand history & we had the Able Tasman & James Cook Room. The rooms were very nice- spacious, comfy, newer, modern. They included a few things in the mini-bar fridge & some snacks if you wanted to pay for them.

The bathroom was nice, newer and very enjoyable.

The hotel is on the main road & just about a 3 minute walk into town, which is nice. If you stayed at one of the farther away hotels, driving to town is easy & parking wouldn’t be a problem.

This was the view behind the hotel- nice mountains in the background, but not a $400/night view.

There was a large lounge area at the front of the hotel for evening receptions.

They offered games, a computer, drinks, snacks, etc.

This room did have a fairly nice view back towards the mountains that I think is pretty good when it is isn’t cloudy. All in all, we were really disappointed & felt like this was over-priced compared to all our other stops in NZ. I’d recommend looking at one of the smaller, older places in the valley, south of the city that would offer a view of the mountain.
