Kitchen Remodel Week 2

Week 2 of remodeling was another fast & furious week.  We’d originally wanted to put the beverage cooler on the end of the island where the wine rack had been, but it wouldn’t fit with the cooktop. We decided to remove two cabinets for the cooler & dad built a mini wine rack in the extra space.

We had some extra shelves put in the pantry & those have been super handy.  Also, there was no light in the pantry & it was very dark, so we ran electrical and installed a light.

We extended the island out about 3 feet, put in a recessed seating area on the far side & then put in a garbage & recycle bin on this side.

Decisions, decisions!  I nearly went crazy trying to pick out the granite for the counter tops, all the paint colors, the tile & backsplash and more!

Dad & Art fixed a few more things around the house (extra decking in the attic) & completed lots of other little maintenance issues (sanding down the doors so they would close properly).

The painters got to work on the upstairs guest bathroom- step one was tearing out the old wallpaper and getting the walls prepped to paint.

The granite counter tops were delievered near the end of the week.  They are incredibly heavy & the guys did a lot of custom cutting on-site.

I was so happy to see them get installed & was really nervous about liking the granite that we’d picked out.

The oven, microwave & dishwasher were soon installed.  The painters were putting up colors on the walls for us to check out & give the final OK.

We went through several shades of green before we found the right one, but I love the ones we ended up with.

The plumber was out on Friday hooking up the dishwater, fridge, disposal, and working on a few other plumbing issues.

We ripped out the pedeestal sink in the downstairs power room & decided to remodel it too while we were at it.  The wallpaper needed to go, we bought a new vanity, eventually installed a new toilet & wanted to paint it.

Saturday the tile guy was there putting up the backsplash, installing a few floor tiles in the kitchen and tiling our new step on the back porch.

The electrician came out to hook up many of the lights, change out many of the fixtures around the house.  He also ran several banks of lights in our garage (so we can see our junk better!) and he hung two of our old fans out there for parties.

Oh my! The trash pile by the end of week 2 was getting to be massive!
